about to go 2.1

had a couple of questions regarding management.

i am going with a wideband for logging and was planning on adding a universal narrowband to replace the stock sensor like this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CTO-O2-1/

will that sensor work with the 2.1 unit? can i wire it direct to the ecu harness instead of going into the under-hood harness? where do i tie it in? the sensor looks a lot like my stock sensor, so i imagine that it will work.

i am going to hit up the FAQ thread before i ask the next questions.

i guess that i didn't clarify. the narrowband will be used in addition to the wideband. i want to use the wideband as one sensor for datalogging and replace the stock narrowband with an aftermarket narrowband sensor (totally separate). just trying to bypass as much of the stock wiring harness as possible by wiring the new o2 sensor directly to the ecu. i understand the difference between narrowband o2 sensors and wideband systems.

where does the stock sensor plug into the ecu?

Most widebands have a narrowband output so there is no need to install the NB o2.. Run the wire from the WB control box (which should be installed near the ECU anyway) to the stock O2 wire at the ECU. I dont know the pin off hand, you'll need to look at a wiring diagram.

This one only has 0-5 output as far as I can tell. It might have a narrow band also, but it's not advertized as having one. I will see when it gets here.

This is misguided logic. The factory o2 sensor wire is high quality shield wire once it gets closer to the ECU. Unless some wires are melted, the wiring should be fine. You can replace the sensor with a Bosch universal for cheap and it's the same thing.

You've been reading the 2nd gen technical section too much. I have done 386 to the wheels (not on my old Rtek 1.7) on a 22 year old harness. The biggest concern with the factory harness is brittle plastic on the connectors. I guarantee any wiring you do will be worse than stock because of the shielding issue.
