update of my new setup

wow long day

good news and bad news
tried to dyno tune the car today with the hopes of racing today (its 1:50am sunday) for BOTI

got 5 gallons of c16
denso racing plugs
car sounded and drove real sweet on my 25 mile journey to the dyno

I did notice when I 1st started up the new engine the oil pressure
was not as high as it normaly should be .....max being 60psi which should be reading over 80-100+...I thought maybe the stock sender was faulty

well the car made 2 pulls at 9K and bang spun a bearing
My fault for ignoring the lack of oil pressure

2nd bad thing, I bought a JGS wastegate and I told the dealer I wanted a 20 pound spring
quess the f'ers ripped me off and installed a 10 pound spring

did 311@10 PSI that was the good news I quess
my new setup has according to everyone there ALOT of potential to make some BIG numbers....I'm not even remotely close to even being in the edge of the efficency range of my Borg Warner turbo....

Oh to add I got a 1.32 T6 back housing with a turbine wheel bigger then any GT42
and there is very little what you would call Lag ...I was very surprised how quickly it spools up (full boost by 5K)

Going to do things right this time ( I bought the engine already closed up from a friend who had the engine Half Bridge'd pinned and new seals etc
but I doubt any lubrication modifications where done...I did change the front cover on the REW engine to install a FC cover with a CAS ignition, maybe one of the needle bearings got whacked...?

This time around (I do most of my work on my car to keep expenses down)
going to install a Turbo II rotating assembly and have it balanced
race oil regulator/Jet the E-shaft/mod the bearings and other lubrication tricks
to make sure the motor can handle the High RPMs a Bridge motor requires

Oh well I'll be up and running in a month or so
with some new tricks and some reworked aspects
like a weldon 2035 fuel pump
105mm throbble body on a custom plenum
Precision Intercooler etc

Pics

That sucks but at least all should be ok in the motor if you let off after you heard the noise and shut it down, hopefully the rotors did not touch the housings etc....

Good luck on the new build.

Sorry to hear about that Roger. I saw your other thread about oiling mods and i think this might help out a little.

http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...opic=51440&hl=

There is some very good info in that thread.

Took the motor out today
now I need to open it up this weekend
and see the carnage (since I drove it 15 miles to my house from the dyno)
got worse and worse till it bearly ran........I'm sure everything is toast inside

Thanks for the link
This time Im taking the motor to someone who builds High RPM
race engines and has machining equipment/experiance to make the appropriate
oil and rotor mods needed for a High revving 9-10K BridgePorted turbo motor

Ouch ! that sucks..Even at idle 60 psi is bad at 3000rpm on a 180 auto meter gauge mines pegged out. But you said you learned so thats key!... "buena suerte" to you and the project.

tommarow (don't have the air power to take out the front pulley bolt)
taking to my friends shop, I did find
lots of copper and metal shavings in the oil pan...I'll take pics tommarow
I'm sure it won't be good....

My quess would be thrust plate, thrust washers and needle bearings are shreaded
both stationary's are toast
E-shaft is scorn
Oil pump will need to be replaced
Oil regulators
OIl cooler/lines

fingers crossed the rotors and the rotor housings survived
if not I'll just stick a TII rotating assembly since I got plenty of backup FC motor parts

Took a break from the car
been doing other things in life other then spending money on this car till just couple of weeks ago..lol
damage was more severe....apon closer inspection one of the spun bearings
scarred up the rear housing surface area pretty good.... making it junk
My fault I tried to drive it messed up to my house after it started to vibrate and was told it sounds like a bearing.. eek live and let learn lol

pretty much only thing that I salvaged was
the front and middle housing and the rotor housings
everything else I had to source and replace....

dropped of the engine and all the new and sourced parts to
have the engine built last saturday at my friends shop......The new rear housing needs to be pinned and ported and bridged to match the front

New build: includes

New deep oil groove 00.5 mazda comp FC rotor bearings(using TII rotors this time)
00.5 yellow FD stationary bearings
New Front and rear oil regulators
bought shims for front rg(3 shims)
New FD oil pump and chain
sourced low miles FD E-SHaft
sourced good set of used FD stationary's
new thrust /bearing plate and washers
new needle bearings
new spacer
RA 2mm super seals (black seals)
Mazda OEM springs set
side seals
corner seals
changed the oil cooler and lines

Hoping turbo is still good

also added heavier springs into the wastegate
the retailor installed a 6 pound spring it turns out
when I reguested a high spring

going to get rid of the NPR large intercooler
and install a big bar and plate intercooler and piping

hoping for xxx HP at 30-32 PSI
shoot anything over 600 and I'll be Happy

engine be ready in a week or so
