Turbo II tranny shifter rods in the outside?

I was looking for a turbo II tanny that has what I think is three shifter rods on the outside of the tranny. I saw one on ebay severl years back and the guy said it was built outa a shop in Puerto Rico for drag racing. Anyways my question is does anybody know where I can purchase one of these, a phone number or website would be nice. I have a stock turbo II tanny but from what I hear these are easier to shift and last longer because mis shifting is almost eliminated completly.
Thanks
Ricky

So...nobody has heard of this mod or has a tranny like this. To be more specific the tranny shifter rods were on the outside like a munsey. Maybe im using the wrong description maybe its the linkage thats outside? Same thing?? I put this thread here because its for drag racing but what do you guys think, will I have more luck on the 2nd gen section?
Thanks
Ricky

I know what you're talking about and have seen such a thing on Ebay but have no idea who was offering it. Think one of the PR guys. IIRC it was a v-gate shifter adapted to a stock tranny. It was discussed on here a while back and, if I remember correctly, the talk was not very flattering.

Thanks for the reply. Any ideas on what kinda problems were discussed? Or a link to the old thread would also be helpful.
Thanks

Thanks Viking for the link and Doc for the pics. Any reason why this mod can't be used for the street? Also do you all know anybody that can build me one of these?
Thanks

I think they are made by someone in Aguada PR...But they are more common with the W50 toyota transmissions..I will dig some more and see who it is that does it.

Thanks rotaryB. That infor would be very helpful. My family lives in PR so they could go check it out for me and buy one if You have a location or number. A website would probably help other people here too. Any idea on if this tranny would be okay to be used on the street? My motor is bridge port and according to alot of people that have this porting done should not be using it on the street but I manage just fine.
Thanks
Ricky

if your going on the street with a Bridgeport your better off with a W50 or a B2600.

the 3.48,1st and 2.0 second on the TII trannies kill your launches..
the b2600 has a much higher 1st and 2nd and some W50 come with 3.80s in first gear..

Thanks rotaryB. I understand what your saying about the B2600 tranny but my RX 4 driveshaft and tranny mounts have already been modified for the turbo II tranny. Is the B2600 the same measurments as the turbo II tranny? If not do you think a reputable tranny shop can instal a higher first and secound gear? What about that v-gate shifter mod? Any luck on finding that shop out of PR?
Thanks
Ricky

your still ok..you just need to use the tail shaft and bell housing from the TII tranny on the B2600 center...drive shaft is the same spline.

What year and model for that b2600 tranny? Any year that better than the other? I have a N/A block with the tuboII tranny so I used an RX4 bell housing. That shouldnt be a problem with the b2600 tranny right since its the same...well except the internals.
Thanks
Ricky

any b2600 2WD...the 4x4 can be used but requires more work.
there are some ford ranger 1981-87ish that also use the toyo-koyo ribbed tranny, dig around your local junk yard and see what you come up with..
..
either way you should be ok with it considering "El Pa" ran 9.0 and west ran 8.90 with TII type transmissions.

How many people have miss 3rd gear with a stock tranny? You can't miss a gear with this setup but I'm more of a street car guy so I don't mind missing gear once in awhile
