Safety importance
Last night I hit both walls. Lucky is was in the middle of 3rd and not the top of 4th gear. Car is totaled.
But is what I want to relay is how important safety equipment is. Good Helmet, belts, seat and a good cage (and padding ), but lucky for me I was wearing my neck brace. Only cost me 35$ but it was worth gold. The cheapest piece of equipment turns out to have been the most important.
Please dont go cheap on this stuff. I am a cheap bastard but glad I bought the brace.
Engine diaper is a must. I did not have one and really think a good one would have saved the car from the junk yard.
Be careful.
Peace

To the danger we racers put ourselves in every Time we get into a race car, long story short I was
The other car in the lane. I was having problems getin off the line due to a loose activation switch
For my launch control. So when the light went green I stayed to try n build boost, when I saw it hit 12 psi I left and of course bogged . And then jus went at about 1/8 mile when I pulled 4th in a matter of sec my life flashed, cuz I was so focused on my run I didn't see what was happening with Chuck until I was about to hit him at around 130mph. By but sure luck and destiny I squeezed by
We came within inches of disaster, so for all of our fellow racers SAFETY IS A MUST!!!!
and a message for my dear friend Chuck, when I was running back to you and I saw you throw your
Jacket. I was like thank God cuz I couldn't run anymore!!! Lol love ya man

Glad you guys are ok, thanks for sharing. Hopefully others read this and understand what can happen and how fast it can happen. When you mentioned engine diaper, do you mean something that will catch oil or coolant on the bottom of the engine or a diaper in case something explodes?

I'm sorry for your loss Chuck, it really seems like you were very close to sorting it all out. The most important part is that you are still ok and can some day race again. Did an iron break and oil the tires? I never considered a drip pan/diaper but now it's on my winter to do list!

Yes, talking about a drip pan. One that covers as much of the undercarage as possible. From the front of the motor to half of the trans. Also be able to secure some kind of oil/water absorbent material. That would help absorb the fluid from just rolling out of the pan. I know it's not possible to catch all the dropped fluid but it would be cheap to make, help with how the wind carries under the car and allitle piece of mind.
Stock ported motor with no pinning at all. Cracked the front housing and sprayed water on the rear tires. It was all over but the crying. With our motors we can have blocks break and the motor still runs good.
Give you guys a visual. It was import night. Lee and I were the last two to qualify. On our first test runs we put a slow car show on. Lee left and a intercooler pipe popped off. I left and the car pulled me back in the seat and made me pull the shifter out of 1st.
Next qualifier we lined up again thinking we were going to put a show on for the crowd. Light turns green, I leave hard, my best 60ft ever, hit second and the motor starts to pull hard so the little red button was pushed for another 100 shot.
Lee did not take off on green, was building boost and when he hit 12psi he left. A few seconds after me.
I hit third gear thinking this thing is on a run. I noticed the power was down a little bit but still pulling and before I could get out of the throttle the water (cracked front plate) was under the rear tires. Made the rear go right then left real hard. The right rear of the car hits the wall then shoots me across the track toward the left wall at a 45deg angle. Just as I am in the middle of the track I see Lee fly by me (120+) and before he is out of my sights, I hit the wall. Car leaves the ground and shoots me back across the track to the right side wall. Motor was still running.
If Lee would have left .2tenths later he would have hit me in the drivers door. He passed in front of me so close I did not see the lower half of his car.
Will post pics of the car later today. Do have some incar video but it needs editing.
Datalog shows good AFRs. Boost was well over 30spi. Timing was good for boost levels but to aggressive for the 100shot. It was a 100shot NOS jet and a 65fuel jet. AFRs still in the low/mid 11s. I change my fuel jet according to bottle pressure and weight to get me my afr I want. I say 100shot because that's what the NOS jet is.

All turbo rotaries need oil pans and baffles....when you break and crack motors its a guarantee oil spill.I went through this and i almost lost it at the track doing 130mph past the 1/8mile but manage to save it .....scary but true.Ever since i have a pan underneath the engine and has save me countless times the oil spills.

Belly/diaper pan for the new project. Made from a drip pan found at wal-mart for 9$.
Lined the inside with a few towels and holding them down with some chicken/screen wire. I know another cracked plate is in my future so hoping this will save me.

Bump this to the top
Last night broke another trans. no big deal, stripped third gear again, 4 or 5 trans now. But never broke the case. This time a part broke the trans cover and all the oil leaked out. But since I had the belly pan that covered most of the trans also, the oil never hit the track. We only noticed the oil leaking after the pan was flowing over, on the trailer. Best 9$ ever spent.

Pic of the cracked trans from wednesday nights TnT.
Installed another low mileage JDM turboII trans Friday afternoon. Broke third gear on the 3rd test pass.
Done for awhile until a trans can be bought. Leaning towards a C4.
