Last night passes.

So I went to test/ dial in my new 2 step/line lock combo also put the stock rear spring-strut combo back in. First pass, forgot to hold the line lock button so just rolled thru the burn out. 2 step was set too high and never hit. Got to figure that out as well. Also forgot to turn the boost to high settings so with 21psi it went 1.58, 6.94 @102mph. I was very happy about that pass and was planning on seeing some 6.'5 and 110mph passes with the 2 step on and turning the boost up. Well I just went slower. It would hook out of the hole but 2nd and 3rd were issues. Tire spin, clutch slip and I have a misterious cut in first gear and sometimes in other. Its not rev limiter (I dont think but sure the hell feels like that) but I need to figure it out as its killing my times. I tried bumping the limiter to high 9K's but it would still cut. Here is my first pass of the night. You can here the cut just a tad in first.

Did you rent the track out by yourself? It looks totally empty and no side by side racing?

Thanks for the props. I was thinking the same. I know it is but want to think otherwise as the disk is pretty new. I guess its time to step up to a real race setup.

What you think is best?

Can I use a sintered iron disk with the stock tranny?

I also wonder how many are shifting without lifting?

It was test n tune, I was one of the first to go. It gets very busy as the night comes on. Gates open at 5 with running starting at 6. About 7-8 it fills up quick.

My old car, I had the act 6 puck unsprung and abused it for years with no problem. 500 torque. Hmm, how light is your car? I dunno man..

Did you have the flyweel resurfaced? How about the pressure plate? How was the condition of that? Was it burned bad?

Everything was good when I put it back in. This is my 3rd clutch and 2nd act 6 puck. Car weighs 2790 with me. I have maybe 2k miles on it with 25-30 passes at the track.

Dang, that sounds like alot of clutches. Maybe I was just lucky with mine. Do you slip your clutch alot? Where does it engage, bottom or top?

Yes, you can use the sintered iron disc. Looked great though bro. Get a new clutch in there and you'll be flyin.

Clutch is certainly slipping. Are you giving the clutches any kind of break in, or just putting them in and hammering?

Deep staging is costing you a slight margin in ET as well. When you get things lined out and start shooting for PBs try to stage as shallow as possible. This gives you a little more run at the roll out and will help ET and MPH.

I never deep stage but trying to stage and leave off the line lock has been tricky. The spent a good bit of time talking with act and we discussed my car and drag racing. Broke the first disk in with street driving but the last disk I did a few big clutch slips and hit the track.

sorry been out of town. Should have looked you up Allen as I was all over TX over the last few days. I also passed by the Viper Hennesey place and wish I would have stopped to check some of those vipers out. Also wish I could have swung by and meet Ari.

Anyway I want to get some good numbers laid down this season so I need to get a good clutch and also figure the big cut I have seeing on most runs. I am going to post another video and please listen to the 1st gear as it sounds like I am shifting to 2nd but the first pause is the cut. I had this with my old ignition set up as well and had raised the limiter to 9500 and still had the cut. My logs show rpms on the below run dropping way down to high 5k range.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUAGfBvAmMM

and listen again here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwQi8xkm3Rw

sounds like I am going thru 4 gears but I am always at the top of third. So watcha think the cut is? Limiter?

What clutch should I get?

do you have a main kill switch or such, as it sounds like the whole game is shutting down , not just the ignition, and most of those plastic kill switches or isolation switches get dickey in time ?

no kill switch. I also question the logs. When I hit the 2 step in the driveway its shows max psi at .7 bars were my log shows 1.15 before I leave the line? I am going to try and get Ray to help out on this one.

Thanks Ant! But I feel like a fool since I cant seem to figure the cut I am getting.

Other problem I have is since my clutch isnt holding I ahve to change. When my motor was balanced they used the Pressure plate to drill.. Now if I put on a new p plate my balance will be off.

Sintered iron disk sounds nice but after talking to ACT and Ray W. I am worried I will have a hard time shifting it up top. So it sounds like going extreme P plate with another 6 puck may be my only option. I am going to look at maybe trying some type of custom Tilton also.

Come on guys.. what else could the cut out be????????

Ernie, you ever try the sintered iron disk?

Mike, you know I'm not a drag racer but from your log it had a fuel cut twice,

once when you left the line, then midway through first gear.

Rev limiter problem?
Or could it be some type of Two-step interference? (if you have one.)

It slipped in all but the short-shifted 4th gear.

Be careful the AFRs were going to 20.

Barry

Thanks for coming on Barry, I actually started a thread on the RCC site about this. Yes, I have a 2 step but this problem has been going on since before. I am not sure why it is cutting. Limiter is set at 9600, well above my shift point. Could my datalog be off and I am actually hitting the limiter? Any ideas?
Oh, that was no short shift to fourth, just so much clutch slip I feathered the throttle.

Mike, which MAP sensor are you using?

The lean spike could be an ignition miss, possibly from the two-step dirtying the plugs.

Have you considered using 9000 for your 20 column? (And dropping the 400 rpm column 1)

Barry

GM 3 bar. Why the change in map reference? I always drive to the track on stock plugs and change to race plugs (freshly cleaned) to keep them from carbing up.
