Import Face-off Gainesville

Bit of an odd story......Gainesville was enforcing nothing faster than 11.5 without a cage. They combined the FIP class with All Motor Pro and we had 18 cars in the class. Top 3 qualifiers didn't have cages and had their last chance warning (I was 3rd qualifier @ 10.7..a personal best)
To make a long story short, I pedalled it 1st round. 2nd round I had a 11.3 car with a cage but he broke before getting to 2nd gear. I won the 3rd round to put me in the finals against an EVO that went 10.2 @148!!!!
Me and the EVO agreed to roll out to about the 60' mark and then hit it...like a roll race. If we both went too fast neither got money.
So we did and we split the money.
It was disappointing that we couldn't really go at it...but didn't break anything, new best time and got a decent payoff.

Cool man glad to see you made it to the finals, I left after 1st round. That EVO was pretty nasty, I do have to say. An all tire burnout, with cheater slicks, is pretty freaking impressive. A friend of mine told me that someone bounced off the wall, did you happen to see it?

Yes, the EVO was pretty strong. 148mph out of a street driver is pretty nasty. The car in the wall was the 1st gen RX7. I didn't see it happen but it messed it up pretty bad. I was just talking to the guy right before the wreck. It was a road race SCCA car with slicks on all 4 corners. It was 13b NA. I can't imagine a 100whp car breaking loose at the 1/8 mile mark. It could have been a broken axle or something.

No vids. Sorry. They didn't allow any cameras mounted to the outside of the car.

The dude with the grey 300ZX (tag reads "Runs10s") from around Bham made the trip. They DQ'd him in the 2nd round and he got an early start back home. He got his warning the first trip down the track. He was not too happy either.

That's Brad, Bet he was pissed. I would b upset with ifo also. They need to make this known before people mak the trip. I can see getting strike on the 9.99 and 136mph and quicker but 11.5? Damn stock cars are going this quick off the showroom floor.....

Doubt it will be an issue. Gainesville is under new owners and they are just doing it by the book.

The guy running IFO said they would not be strict like that next weekend. I think it has to do with being an NHRA sactioned track...or something like that. I will say that I thought they did a nice job on the track in G'ville. I had to turn up my launch rpm because I bogged it down the first run. I didn't hear a single complaint about traction all day.

The event is at Palm Beach Int'l raceway. They are NHRA sanctioned as well so I hope it turns out to be a good event...

Thanks Guys...

Yea that is dead it. My dad and I took our Camaro out not too long ago, and same thing put the GoPro on the rear glass. The very nice lady that worked the staging lanes in formed me, that they are now a NHRA sanctioned, and all external cameras must be bolted to the car...blah blah blah. We've gone to SGMP and they not say a thing. What can I say, it's the only track around here close to me.

What can you say... I mean they are just looking out for everyones safety. Not really a bad thing. I keep thinking about a cage but seems like with the performance of today's cars ther needs to be some rethinking on the rules. I mean when a new car can run faster than a 11.5 but needs a cage to do so it's kinda odd.

On the cameras I am thinking they don't want **** flying off and slowing things down to clean it up.

Hey guys, that was me in the wall, totally brain dead thing to do, burned out my first two runs and for that run, my 3rd, I thought I would 1) try the right lane, and 2) skipped the bleach. So I had no traction and should have got out of it , but kept pushing, hit third and the car swapped ends and than the wall. Tore it apart over the weekend, looks like I can fix it, bent the axle and housing, and the watts link ,upper and lower links, along with cosmetics. We'll be back
