Anyone using FD spare wheels 16x4 as front runners?If yes ,which tires are you using?Did you see better results?

Dont buy the m/h 16'' front runner tires they wont fit in the fender wells. Dont ask how i know its to embarassing $$$

So what works on the stock spares and fender wells? I guess mine will be differant though since it's an fc.

Options that that i know of or coker tires, motor cycle, and if you have 2dgen spares they may make a 15'' inch wheel. Then any skinney in 15''.

Running the skinnies up front will help lower any "tire pull" and will lower your rolling resistance. makes it much more stable on the big end. Im running weld's with Moroso D/s's up front.

I use the FC spares with Firestone tires. You can get them from CCW.

Sorry to bump this up, but why didn't the m&h fit? Was 27" just too tall of a tire?

On a side note, if i went with an FC spare on my FD will they clear the brakes?

Thanks for the bump.....I was just doing a search on this topic to see if I could do this! I need to spray paint them silver though! My car would look ridiculous with yellow rims up front! LOL

Someone told me the stock spare rim was not strong enough to go that fast, but I've read that Ari used to run them back in the day.


Can someone tell me the best choice to go with that will be safe and I can find in town at a Motorcycle shop or Discount tire.

Also, any experience on how much time you will shave off your 1/4 mile? I have some 19" rims up front so I would think it would make a big difference! But I read on another link that they didn't notice a difference.

the m&H tires wont clear the wheel wells. It sucks bad as i now own a set of tractor tires!

No its stock heigth, these tires look like sand rail tires! Im going to try and find out who m&h sells them to and offer them a good deal to get rid of them. Dan Scheckter gave me the set up on the weld wheels and what to do to get them to fit on the front.

Probley i had them gloss black powder coated and then got the tires that dont fit. Pm me and make an offer plus shipping i will be fair about price! And zinx Dan Schecter has the skinnie on the skinnies, were you use the weld wheels and modifie brake calipers. Hes a nice guy and will probley help you out.

I've heard that the problem with the motorcycle tires is that they are not meant to hold a load like a normal tire. Is this true? It would really suck to have one of these blow out going down the track at 130.

I think if you run the spares the coker firestone reproduction tire is the way to go i have friends with new vettes that use them and no problems so far, plus they have street tread. I dont like the looks but its the cheap way to go. And the cycle tires are not load rated very high. What do you mean 130 mph you plan on going faster than that!

So after searching for "Firestone" front runners and not finding anything Busted7 finally gives up the source and it clicks why they have the funky tread pattern. So I checked out the Coker site (www.cokertire.com) and then called them to ask some questions.

The guy on the phone says he uses the Firestone reproduction on his Corvette that traps at 160 mph. So that relieved my worries about using these tires at speed. He then recommended a tire that's new to them. It's their Excelsior. http://store.coker.com/product.php?p...4&cat=0&page=1 He says it's much lighter than the Firestone and they're priced about $30/tire cheaper. They also a much better looking tire IMO. He said they're sized at about 26"x4".

Alot of 9 sec cars run the 165R15's. They came off old VW Beetles and work great. I ran them when I was running 10.70's.

I paid $32 each at the local tire shop.

Wasn't trying to imply you were. I had just been searching the net looking for the Firestone tires everyone was using. Just figured CCW would have a big mark up and was more curious than anything. It's all good in the end.

Doesn't the "R" in that stand for radial?
Meaning these would only work when paired up with drag radials.

I've heard of several quick 7's running the bias ply motorcycle tires for front runners and have never heard of a failure.
