drive shaft loop & scatter sheild?

I have decided it would be only smart for me to do some safety mods now. I want to add a loop and scatter shield then maybe a cage. So can I use a universal driveshaft loop? Any other sources for a scatter shield? Also on cages, how many points and is it best to have a local shop fab up or is there a kit offered. I would prefer all to pass tech at local tracks. This is for a FD..

Thanks

I have a scatter shield. I purchased from Puerto Rico through a friend, I'm sure you can get that online. With mine its a pain in the *** to get to some of the engine mount bolts, you may have to use 1 or 2 longer ones since the shield takes up some space.

As for the driveshaft loop, I have the kit but never installed it. I can't see how the driveshaft would fall out if it broke since there is not much room between the PPF etc.

As for the cage, I would do that first. At least a 6pt with detachable swingouts. You only need a side bar on your side up to 10.0 or 135mph. I have never seen them enforce the 135mph rule where you need a full cage.

good point on the loop.. I have searched online for scatter shield's and come up short. I thought about buying one for a chevy-ford tranny and modifing it but they list it for a flex plate only not flywheel..... So how does a scatter shield pass tech? I called Jegs about this and he was pretty sure only a bellhousing replacement would truly pass???

Anyone offer a 6 point cage with swing outs?

My local track wouldn't let me run without a loop, but let me run without a shield. I bought a universal $30 driveshaft loop. Installation was easy in my old FD.

Eric, you didn't have the PPF to deal with, thats why it went like a breeze.

Scatter shields for the FD can be found here : http://newimportspeedshop.net/ last time I checked, they told me 290?? I think.

I also have a universal DS loop, but I don't have the PPF anymore either.

Anthony, how the heck do you pass tech without a loop on your car running as fast as you do?

Be careful buying a scattershield from the above shop. That is where I got mine from and although the shield itself was ok in quality the fitment was way off and I had to spend over 4 hours grinding to make it work on my car. I called them and told them the problems so hopefully they have taken care of it. My shield was for a RX4 bellhousing so maybe the fd one's are ok.

Even if you got under my car, you can barely see the driveshaft. It is hidden above the PPF. I have never had a tech guy, even when NHRA was around, get under my car and try to look for a driveshaft loop. This is one of the reasons I tech the car off the trailer.
