Why 20W50 oil?

thanks for the clarification, Rice Racing! Im getting a rebuild pretty soon (with streetport, etc), i'll keep the 5w-50 in mind come April.

I've heard of people blowing oil cooler lines just by revving over 4k in the winter with 20W50 oil. The oil temps really lag behind coolant temps, so when you THINK the engine's warmed up, the oil is still thick and hard to pump.

Running 20w50 in "winter" temps is suicide. That's what lower weight oils are for.

I run Mobil1 15w50...never seen 5w50 for sale. Does anyone know where to find the stuff?
