Whats the first thing i must do once i get a used RX7?

hey,

as the question speaks, im pretty new to RX7s. i gained my interest in the RX7 FD3S last year and every time i look at it it calls out my name, so i said **** it and decided to save up. if i dont **** up, in 1-1/2 years i should be able to buy a used RX7 (planning to get one from RX7.com).

as i need to gain more intel based on rotarys and RX7 and study in the mean time, why not start with the basic of basics...

Whats the first thing i should do when i get my used RX7 FD3S with miles 100k+?
i know the first couple of months ill be working and concentrating on the maintenance of the car, and selling the excess stuff that came with the car that i wouldnt need (ie. stereo system etc.).

what i was thinking:

- change the Apex Seals (get one from RotaryAviation.com)
- change the Rotor housings (rotaryaviation.com gives a life time warranty on Seals)
- change the radiator.
- change the Oil Filter.
- change the clutch and flywheel.

are there anything else i should list in my roster?

thanks!

Look for one already with a rebuild to save you alot of hassle. And if you cant afford then dont buy it. Its extremely expensive to maintain and even more when something goes wrong. An a/c change for the 93s from the old non-eco friendly stuff to the new stuff is around 700 to 1000$ depending on labor and parts. I highly recommend you think about maybe an FC to learn about rotaries and stuff then jump up. Thats what I did, and helped me alot.

k kool, thx fatman!

also, i doubt that i would go for an FC just because its not my style. all of the motors on the 7s at RX7.com have already been rebuild.

but what would be the most crucial thing for me to change? if i wanna stay on the safe side with a rebuild engine with body mile over 100k+?

thanks!

I would buy one that someone already has modified and rebuilt the motor on.

As has been stated, scratch the RA apex seals (there are 6 in the motor) and any internal stuff off of your list. If buying through RP (rx7.com) then the motor will be good to go. You will want to concentrate on upgrading the stock cooling system (alum ast, alum rad) and replacing all of the broken/worn out stock parts. That alone will make you poor, guaranteed . Also, when you do buy, Chris and Ari over at RP will be able to answer all of your questions.

Yup along with bushings, tie rod ends, vacuum hoses. Its easily at least 5k i would say to get it NEAR showroom condition. Near, since ofcourse its nearly impossible to get it brand new.

Yea same as the others really, take your time and find the right rx for you, one with a rebuild recently done would be best.
