True power of the 20B (on video)

I just saw this posted on Honda-Tech.com. It's a Toyota Trueno powered by a 20B putting down 800hp (not sure if that's rwhp). Toward the end you'll see the thing just LAUNCH away from the chase car as if it was standing still, literally. The thing hits harder from a roll than most cars do from 1st gear.

3 rotors with turbo really shows the true and ultimate power (and gas sucking) of the rotary engine! THat was sweet....if I was chasing a car and it took off like that I would **** my pants

Wish I had something to add, but anyways that was cool. I don't think its real though. Its hard to judge how fast they are going by the hash marks.

I think it's real, because if the speed of the video were increased, all of the cars would go faster, not just the 20B car.

I'm sure that they limited it to a roll-on start because an all-out standing start would blow the drivetrain all over the road. I'm actually anticipating this problem with my car until I can install a proper (ie extremely expensive) driveline.

BTW, unless my eyes are bad, the video lists the engine at 600 PS (600 Metric Horsepower), which is about 592 SAE Horsepower.

Man, that car is really moving.

I wonder if the power is limited by the turbo size... what was it a T88? Regardless, the way it pulled away seems like a heck of a demonstration of the torque of the 20B.

If I only had the money.....

That's pretty much the idea. You can go really huge without worrying too much about lag--within reason. Hitman had a T-66 on his not 20B 3-rotor and it was spooled up TOO quickly by the motor. T-88, T-76, T-100 are the types of turbos you would want.

It all depends on what you like. IMO there is no such thing as "spools up TOO quickly" (you don't hear the supercharger folks complaining about this), so that's why I went with the T66 for my 20B. I figure that this, along with the 3.1-lb flywheel and 5.5" 2-disk clutch, will let me rev up the power just by looking at the gas pedal. I will only run about 1 Bar of boost with a stock redline, so the 72 lb/min flow rate of the T66 should be just fine for my road racing application. The T72 may have also been a good choice, but I don't like the T70 and T76 maps. I can hardly wait until the car is finished!

The 20B sucks a lot of air, so I think that a high-boost drag race setup would require something really big like a Garrett T51, or a multi-turbo configuration. However, I'm sure that the car in the video is just fine with the power that it has right now.

3.1 lb. flywheel? I don't think you'll have much trouble spooling up anything!

Yeah, it's the Quarter Master flywheel out of the good old Mazda Comp catalog, and Jim Bonsey hooked me up with the milled-down counterweight. Hehehe, spooling it up will be easy, but driving it on the street may take a bit of practice.

holy crap, thats one light *** flywheel, and yeah streetability in that car will be an artform lol :-)
Do T51's spool up fast for that big of a turbo? Are they ball bearing?
What spool up fastest out of the "big *** huge horsepower" turbos
