Street-porting boundaries
Street-porting boundaries
I'm doing my own backyard rebuild, on my first rotary. I'm in the process of porting my end plates and mid iron.
I know how spreading the intake opening in different directions affects the timing and power band and such...
What i want to know is how much room for error do you have and the inside edge of the port (closest to the e-shaft) without leaking oil? .... Cuz i nicked that edge and had to sand it out a little but not much.
Any one have any pictures of port jobs that caused an oil leak?

As a rule, you shouldn't touch that edge, ever.
In practice, if you measured the oil seal track, you might see about .5mm of extra port area you might be able to get. IMO that's really not worth the bother.

I'm probably about 1 mm over the OUTSIDE wear mark... Isn't it the INSIDE diameter of the seal that would cause a leak? Shouldn't the thickness of the oil ring still overlap the port without spilling oil from the inside diameter?
And how much oil are we talkin bout here? Enough to foul the plugs?

The whole reason why I pulled the motor was cause my oil control rings were shot, car used to smoke like a damn chimney...
now i'm worried about burnin oil from the same frickin seal. Ironic? :/
