solid motor mounts

Any opinions or experience with solid mounts?

I'm having some solid motor mounts made for my 1st gen. Faster throttle response and the engine becomes a stressed member of the chassis.

If anyone was interested in jumping on board:
Mounts will be made of 4160 steel and will be a bolt in replacement for your cushy rubber mounts. Cost will be about $50 for the pair.

Yeah, I was going to say aluminum. Just buy some 3" diameter aluminum rod stock and cut the desired thickness and drill a 3/8" hole in the center. That's what I did to my car and they work great. Rotaries are smooth engines so the vibration is not bad. Although with my bridgeport the car rocks back and forth, but I like it. It's like I have my own rocking chair in my car.

For about $15 I made a set of hockey puck mounts yesterday. Can't wait to install them in something.

You use two nuts counter-tightened together so setting the preload on the rubber pucks is easy. It's a nice compromise between solid mounts and stock. I've already installed two sets in a friend's 1st gen and REPU. Only slightly increased noise and vibrations over stock, but more fun to drive and well worth the 15 bucks to buy the materials and the time it takes to drill and what not.

The increase in noise vibration harshness is hardly noticable when changing to soild motor mounts with these engines, especially on those vehicles running a free-flowing (loud) exhaust. However, a massive amount of NVH is transmitted to the cockpit when running solid transmission mounts.
