S4 NA > Turbo [help]

Come thursday, I will be picking up an 88 GXL and the shortblock with it. I'll swap the engine from my 87 into it just to have a car again, but I'm going to rebuild the other engine. I plan on going turbo from used parts on the forum and need to know exactly what I will need in order to make it all work.

I'm assuming the engine will be an S4 6-port (being the GXL was NA), so if that helps at all then good. I'm going to go with a large streetport and do the RacingBeat water jacket mod too. Now, here is a parts list of what from I figure I will need:
  • Turbo w/manifold
  • T2 UIM / LIM / TB/ Elbow
  • T2 water pump housing
  • T2 driveshaft
  • NF01 pressure sensor or N370 boost sensor
  • T2 Knock box w/ pigtail (also, what is a pigtail?)
  • T2 hood
  • N318 Turbo MAF
  • Turbo radiator, triple core
  • T2 starter
  • T2 DP and Precat
  • overflow (oil catch?) tank
  • T2 intercooler & piping
  • 550cc hi-impendance injectors (4?)
  • T2 ignition coils
  • N332 ecu
  • T2 engine fuse box
  • T2 trans

If I am missing anything or have something that I don't need to buy please let me know. I will also be retaining the OMP.

The NA engines have a totally different intake port setup than the turbos. Point being, the turbo intake manifold will not simply bolt on. You would be better off buying turbo end plates or a turbo core in general. The other option would be to use the NA intake manifold and make an exhaust manifold that extends out further to clear the intake. Not ideal. There's also the fact that the S4 NA rotors are 9.4:1 CR and the S4 TII rotors are 8.7:1. Not a huge deal, but makes tuning a bit more important. Just some ideas.

So would it just be more economical to buy a long block s4 t2 engine then and source the rest of the parts?

with that big list, once you get done purchasing all that part by part you could of bought a decent used TII engine.
But to each his own I guess.

I thought about everything and i'm just going to stay n/a and rebuild the one i got today. It has only one good puff, but that is it as is:

However, the whole engine turns so freely and easily that it makes me think something is causing the apex seals to not be even contacting the housings... After i tear it down we will know for sure what is wrong.

low compression rotary engines do turn over very freely, this ain't a heavy turning 4pot engine you know. wierd oil filler cap by the way.

Hahaha, I'm guessing it was put there just to keep debris from getting in the engine. Gatorade debris prevention system
