Rebuild: what do I need to go 9K rpm

I already posted in the 3rd gen but am not getting much response. I am doing a rebuild (3rd gen) but I would like to increase the redline to 9K rpm. What will I need to do/buy for the rebuild (just concerned with the internal bits at this stage). Is a streetport good enough? Or will I have to go bridge? Do I need race rotor bearings? How about stengthened stationary gears? Rotor clearancing?.........etc.

And is there anyone here running above stock redline? Tells us what you've done.

I run mine to 8100 and have gone with the one piece 3mm ianetti ceramics which are designed for higher rpm..higher boost abuse.

what are your mods?

Porting has nothing to do with how high you can rev your engine? Is there a certain reason you need to turn that high of an RPM?

if you need to go that high, first off, make sure that the entire set up is built around this intent. you can rev the rotary that hig, but is it necessary if it is ou tof your powerband and torque band? i do not think that it is completely necessary for this, but one advantage would definately be a greater ability to stay in the upper power band between shifts. then, this brings up another question. Where is the new power band? when you do this kind of thing you are most likely going to change the whole way that the engine runs anyway.....good luck in your quest. but a good place to begin would be a heart to heart with a good and reliable tuner like pettit, kd, pineapple.

Your going to need a custom intake manifold cus the stock manifolds have too long of runners. These long runners shift the pwr down lower. This should be the first obstacle to overcome. The sock man put the pwr at about 8k or so and revving to 9k does nothing but make noise.

No reason. Just doing a rebuild (for race, occasional street) and researching into various ways of increasing power. Why wouldn't porting have anything to do with how high you can rev. Are you telling me the stock ports can flow enough at 8500+ rpm? Or is the restriction the manifolds like someone else said?

obviously without the porting the powerband would not be there.

Just to name a few things that help out for higher rpm...

o Hardened stationary gears (do the 3rd gens have this already? I forget)
o higher oil pressure
o side clearance of rotors
o clutch and flywheel -- can they handle your desired RPM safely?
o Porting - I don't think that even the biggest street port will make 9000 RPM worthwhile. Bridge port most likely the smallest port that can really USE a 9K redline effectively.

THat's just a few things to get you started looking. I haven't built an engine for over 8K myself, but these are some of the things I'd be thinking about if I were to try it.

Wargasm, you can give a streetport sufficient overlap to make power up to about 9k

yes, why do you need so many revs with just a streetport?

even the factory race PP engines only go to around that with useable power.

is it a turbo? from what I have seen around the place, turbo's dont usually have to be revbved much past standard redline, its airflow, more boost less revs same airflow, les chance to go bang.

Hey thanks a lot. just curious but where did you see the pics? I know there is one or two in the forums photo gallery, is that where you saw it? The truck hasnt been restored at all, my dad is the original owner and its just always been kinda taken car of. I need to get some pics of my yellow truck up sometime. Its way more stock then the red one, a very good original example. Any ways i also have a bunch of pics and pretty soon i should have a vid of my rx3. Could you host the pics and the vid for me? I dont have a digital cam or anything but i am going to have a friend over and we are going to do it all at once. Can you help me out with this? Im not too knowledgable and im on dial up. It would almost be easier if i put it all onto a CD and just mailed it to you. ??? Hey thanks though.
