To RE or Not to RE
i have an 87 TII that is converted to a series 5 motor. here is the question... when this motor goes, and i think i might be on its last leg.. should i A) rebuild the s5 motor with a nasty port (half bridge or big street) or B) switch to a 13b-re motor. (used JDM)
i am switching to a haltech when this happens too...so wiring should not be an issue
so what am i looking at as far as the haltech wiring goes, how different from the 13bt is it?
motor mounts? are they the same, what am i looking at here?
will the 87 TII tranny bolt up?
and any other detail that you can think of.. thanx

The wiring is nearly identical. You will need to either fabricate your engine mounts or buy them from www.fcpower.com or K2RD. They run just over $400.
Will you be going to a single turbo if you go with an RE engine, or will you run the stock twins? If you run the stock twins, I'm not sure, but I think you will have to modify the turbo outlet neck to fit under the FC hood. You may also have to make a custom elbow for the TB. I know my 20B intake elbow would not fit under the FC hood, so I'm just guessing on that one.

I got mine for 1500 complete but I think if you go onto thepartstrader.com you might be able to find one cheeper. I'm making my own manifold but you can get them pretty much anywhere.

Yeah I got mine too for around 1500, but after you strip all the bullshit off it, basiclaly you have a used 13bt and a pretty intake manifold. I wished I would have just rebuilt a S5 motor and bought the parts I needed for the top as I needed them... But I got to admit the cosmo ports ARE HUGE! And the intake manifold is one of a kind Definately an attention getter...

would the 13b-rew just bolt on with that engine mount. kit? b/c I'm going to build my rotary, and it will be for a fd. but until I find one I was going to run it in an fc for sometime. so could I just put the 93 fd motor in the fc?

the engine mounts on FC (13B, 13BT) and Cosmos (13B-RE and 20B-REW) are similar, but quite different from the FD (13B-REW) mounting positions.
The cosmo/FC mounts are on the side of the engine, aqnd FD mounts are on the bottom of the oil pan (back?) and somewhere else which I forget.
