PTS apex seals

Anyone have any experience with these seals?
www.performancetestedseals.com
According to them it's guaranteed not to break

At US$171.86 PER seal? And they "Bow" instead of breaking in pieces? And then when they "Bow", they can be pulled out, straightened up and stuffed back like nothing happended? This is not an April's fool joke, right?

I heard that Abel Ibarra use them and many other top rotary racers use them....so if it works for them, why wouldn´t it work for me?

I have heard good things about them, the only thing I also know is these are a "race only" type of seal. Meaning they do what they say but at the expense of housing longevity. At least that's what I was told by people who use them.

Not ceramic some sort of steel alloy. For US sales contact hipers@bigplanet.com they are in Puerto Rico last quoted $1150 for a complete set with springs. And yes it is a race only seal.

I've heard nothing but good things about them and all the fastest guys use them. I'll probably try a set on my next build.

race only, eh? that sucks.

well, whenever i feel confident enough to put together a RACE-only motor, i'll definitely consider them.

Well a couple weeks ago I sent them an e-mail asking about housing wear.

Hi I was wondering how well your seals held up in a street driven car? I understand that these seals are idea for Hi hp engines but how safe are they on the rotor housings? Could someone get 100,000 miles out of an engine with these seals?

Answer

HI I dont know how long they will last as we are still testing them in a street car. These seals were designed for racing, and do not wear the housing or rotors. The seals cost $1300.00aust so they are a bit expensive to use on street car engine.
Cheers

I paid 900 dollars for them and bought them from pts. they look like stock mazda seals and atkins seals. You do see the machining grooves in the seals but they do work.

Are you talking about the machining grooves on the seal faces making it look like it has a rough texture? On my RA seals I could see small machining grooves along the length of the seal face(small lines). To me it looked like a miniature concrete nail. Currently I'm doing an experiment with my RA seals and sanding down 3 of the seals faces to make them perfectly smooth. The other 3 I left alone. I'm trying to see if the smoother surface cuts down the initial housing wear and chatter that some people are claiming that the RA seals are doing to the housings. Then after 10k, I'm going to pull the engine apart and do an inspection and compare housings.

There was some guys @ Atco selling "Goopy Seals" for about the same price...
Does anyone know if its the same seal being sold here under different name??

I know Abel and other 3 rotor cars running them...from one, I heard they had yet to break a PTS seal.

If they are unbreakable and twist like some pics I've seen......they remind of race pistons rings !!! I've seen melted Al pistons and rings were in one piece.

So they're super tough seals that are not hardened and they will not wear the rotor housing?

I just want to get this right.

We also gotta define how we use the word RACE. There are people running 30 minute heats racing just like there are people running 9 seconds of WOT before shutdown racing. Big difference.

My original mention of race was meaning do not build a street car and expect years of mileage, that was what was conveyed to me. I have yet to try a set here, but may, to see how they are. I have a few cars they could work in.
