porting?

porting?

Hey fellas, i hear about porting the engine or street porting it. What is porting? The only thing i know is it gives more power. What is actually done to the engine?

It opens the intake to the engine and the exhuast, to allow more fuel and air into and out of the engine faster. Similar to a cam on pissed-on engines. More air/fuel in, More exhaust gases out!

Basically, as others have said, intake and exhaust ports are opened up. They can be enlarged in two ways. First, the interior capacity can be enlarged, this allows more air flow to go through them. Second, the shape of the port can be changed. This is the same as changing cam timing. Longer the port is open, more air gets in=more power.

No problem. Theres another one somewhere, I think on an Aussie site that shows more porting, like monster ports and such.

I never heard of anyone doing a street port and keeping the stock exhaust pipes and stock set up. Everyone puts after market exhaust and does other stuff to the car like turbo chargers and stuff like that. Its one of those mods that gives you the greatest power gain by doing it along with other mods

Depends, what car do you drive? Turbo or not? What are your other modifications?
