Perf. Comparisons????

Does anyone know of a similiar type comparison (like the intake one thats out there) for these items:

Cat-back Exhaust systems?
ECU's?
Turbo Timers?
Downpipes?

Im thinking Im gonna go with the Apexi Intake. And I just read a lil about Blitz's Dual Timer......I was wanting to add a boost gauge anyway does anyone own one? Is it worth buying one unit for both duties or shld I stick w/ a plain old fashioned column mounted boost gauge?

Ive owned this car for a week and Im at a loss for words for all the products available for this car. Ive been searching and researching but havent come to any conclusions on what to purchase just yet. So ANY feedback from those of you who know first hand or thru a friend even are welcome to HELP ME out here. (:

As Ive stated before, Im more interested in some reliability mods first and then perf mods. Altho my tailpipes are rotted somewhat so I might squeeze in a cat back system pronto. But Im kinda picky, I want an AWESOME deep throaty sounding system but w/out that teenager zing we all hear in the civics out there.

ANY ADVICE for the above products and any others you can come up w/ wld be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

TIA!

Oh I almost forgot.....shld I replace the AST w/ a Pettit unit or shld I delete it altogether?????

intake - www.m2performance.com
ecu - apexi powerFC
turbo timer - any brand, greddy hks, apexi
downpipe - www.rx7fashion.com

if you get the powerFC it reads boost, temp, etc so you don't have to get gauges yet. the powerFC will make the car run alot smoother.

i would probably invest in a boost guage and water temp gauge mounted on a pillar for safety reasons. most fd's die because of overheating or overboosting/running lean.

delete ast, not needed
cat back it depends on what u want, more flow= louder

apex gt and n1's flow great, along with blitz nurspec, but are all loud if you run dp-mp..but just a dp will sound sweet. blitz is the cheapest of the 3 and is 100% stainless
turbo timers-all the same find one with cool functions if u want(some have the same capiblities of a g-tec in them )
dp's= all the same , just make shutre its 3in and SS or u can get the hks one for that stock look

ecu...depends on how much u wana mod...pettits can be found for like 500... but power fc is a great choice with the gb goin on now...

intake deff m2

Thnx Vosko and Bacon!

Can either of you briefly tell me why the M2? From what Ive read it almost sounds like it will simulate a ram air box.......am I right? If yes no need to explain further. Just knowing sportbikes, I know how that effects perf.

As for price of the M2 Intake......does anyone offer it any cheaper than their $485 figure?

Thnx Again!

Make sure your car is running properly before upgrading. Have all the maintenance done on the car first. For example, replace the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, hmm...actually, you are located in NJ so take your car to KD Rotary to have all this done. Do not take it to your local Mazda dealership, because most likely they suck and will mess something up. Have Dave from KD replace all the fluids and tell him you want the fuel filter, and some wires like Magnecor 8.5 MM instead of the stock one's.

AST- it could be eliminated, which cost a lot less than getting the Pettit's AST. Also, have the 180 degree thermostat done at the same time. You don't need to replace this piece right away, just make sure there are no leaks or cracks on the stock piece.
Exhaust System A'pexi GT Spec is one of the best out. Also, any downpipe is great, just make sure to get a stainless steel downpipe.
Turbo Timer Any one is good. It's not really necessary, just make sure you get the wire harness that is made for an FD. You can just sit inside your car for a few minutes than turn off your car.
ECUThe A'pexi Power FC and Commander is awesome. There is a great group buy going on right now for this unit, check the Power FC Forum. I think you should definitely get in this group buy. It's very easy to use and allows you to monitor many functions.

The A'pexi intake is an extremely good intake for your Rex. You don't need one of those cold air intake system.

technically not a performance mod but you should put silicone vaccuum lines if not done already. the old rubber lines rotting out are a common problem for the sequential system. getting the car checked out first for problems is a good idea too

Hey,
Well if you want an intake I would either go with a Apex'i or m2, both are very fuctional and both look good. Also for exhaust go for the Apex'i N1 Dual or GT because you cant go wrong w/ either they can be a bit pricey but its all well spent. I went Dual N1 and was very happy dispite its obnoxious noise in my mind though that just ment it was working well. If you have some time on your hands go buy a hose kit and replace that rats nest under your upper intake manifold. that will eliminate a few problems before they occour. For an ecu go power FC its the best streetable ecu if you think you will be at the track alot go HALTECH from what i heard thats the best of the best. Make sure your exhaust is 3"+ all the way back from the beginning.
Happy Rotoring,
Ryker
