Nexus gauges by Autometer!!

These are the ****.

http://hp.autometer.com/products/nexus/index.html

I was planing to redo the whole gauge cluster with the Cobalt series but after seeing these... *drool*

There's an option to download your driving to a SD memory card and load it to your computer. Granted that alot of that is a tad too over the top. The color is just damn nice. It's nice and bright without the ricey look (in the red and white color). The color reminds me of the new Honda Accord dash.

I'm getting a set. Who's with me?

How reliable are the autometer gauges compared to other brands like Apexi, HKS, Greddy, Blitz. Do they make them (Nexus) in metric too?
As for the looks part, I 'd like to see them on a car first...

Considering they've been around for a long time and are used by many race teams and domestic guys here in the states. I'd say I trust their work.

I called Autometer, the release of these gauges is going to be mid January.

Too bad they are still Autometers...

We sold a few to people who asked for them and did a few installs as well. It was about 50/50 on whether the gauge worked correctly out of the box or not. I've got one of their silver faced oil pressure gauges in my car (was free, overstock in the shop hehe) and i has never worked correctly. Erratic movement and false readings...My GReddy gauges on the other hand always work perfectly I'll be getting a GReddy oil pressure gauge soon too hehe

If they don't work well, why do so many people use them?

I've also had a negative exp with my 3 phantom autometer gauges. My Oil pressure gauge sorta worked, till the crappy brass crush connector snapped the nylon hose and caused me to lose a ton of oil. Luckily I was not driving the car at the time and the car was cold. NOT GOOD. The Electrical oil temp gauge always pegged past 250 degrees F. The water temp sensor I never got to the point of hooking up before I decided not to use it and go with a different brand.

They look cool, and the features are cool, but I don't think I'll ever use another autometer product. I think I'll just go with the rediculously expensive Greddy gauges.

They use them because they are cheap. Cheap doesn't mean they are good. All the autometer gauges I've seen don't center, they ship with crappy supporting stuff such as lines, and the lighting is horrible.

Greddy is cheaper than a lot of brands.

You guys realize AutoMeter makes more then one GRADE of gauge, right?

They're not all 20 dollar mechanical gauges. Several of their gauges use stepper motors, and many Top Fuel drag teams use them, as well as some top level road racing and NASCAR teams. Those guys have higher budgets then we can dream of (ever seen a marble floored race trailer?), and run AutoMeter stuff. Do they make cheap stuff? Yup, doesn't mean they don't make good stuff as well.

Those gauges are excellent looking... price is gonna be painful though.

Man If my gauges that failed only cost 20 bucks I wouldn't be so upset. The phanton gauges run 60 a peice thats 180 bucks for 3 gauges 2 of which failed. That is shoddy workmanship no matter how many ways you look at it.

Compare your autometers to some Apexi ones or some other high quality brand. Top Fuel dragsters? Yeah, I'm sure you could detect a problem with a gauge before the engine gernaded. Any big racing (when it's allowed) uses much more advanced data aquisition than drivers saying "that durn engine hit 80 psi in da oil!"

my autometer sport-comp seam to be accurate, the tach is the only one that doesnt center (minus the mech temp ones)

my fuel pressure reg comes preset at 45 and thats exactly what the guage says.
water temps sits at 185, oil temp at 145, oil pressure at a 85 higher than 4500

I am currently running 3 autometer phantom gauges:

-Mechanic boost Pressure
-Electric Water Temp
-Electric Oil pressure

I am not saying that they are the best gauges out there, and the higher pricer import gauges are probably way better, BUT I have confirmed their functionality, and they are spot on with the stand alone (except the oil pressure, I can't verify that one). Not bad for less than $150 invested in 3 gauges, the only thing that I can pin point is the lighting it truely sucks when compared to the newer LED lightining technology.

I've never had a problem with autometer gauges, but have had a greddy boost and apex egt take a crap on me, go figure. I just cannot get used to that damn metric stuff so I will probably get defi d series for my winter interior makeover.
