AJC13B, F@#k the secret is out, lets just keep it between you and me, I've found when you mix it with Pepsi instead of Coke you can put an extra 30deg of timing without detonation or bubbling.
Hitman, now that I have made an idiot out of myself, I must say that I definitely agree with you.
There has always been a tendency to rip the **** out of each other here in Aus, but quiet frankly I for one am over it. My accident woke me up to a few things and a few people stepped forward and showed me whom I should have respect for and who I have been wasting my time with. Believe me I was shocked myself with who ended up in which basket.
After travelling the world with many of the best, I can assure you that the Aussies can hold our own as tuners and engine builders and we should respect each other for that. We all have good theories and bad ones, only an ignorant fool would not take the time to at least listen, as we are never to good to keep learning.
Regards-Anthony
P.S Back to the thread, Have you tried putting 16V into the coils?

Anthony.
Thats almost as good as the old thing about putting V8 Vege Juice in your fuel makes your car go harder :-)

I too notice just how bad things are here with how everyone attacks everyone, and I too have long been over it. I have learned to be sceptical of most claims because so many are exagerated, but I dont bag people out unless they really deserve it. I did find it sobering to see how some of the people I used to think were guru's were in reality not quite that good, and how some that I thought knew nothing actually did know alot but kept it to themselves. I suppose it teaches us to be more humble which can only be a good thing. It would be good to meet one day and share a few drinks along with what would no doubt be a lengthy think tank. ;-)

Back on topic....
AJC holds a touch under 14v and is rather consistent through the rev ranges. It was tested thoroughly a while ago when it did have vlotage supply problems which ended up being some dodgy old wiring. It would probably respond well to a touch more voltage but by the way the motor is running it should be fine for now to get Steve well into the 10's, which is the primary goal. There is a gain to be had for sure with CDI and that should be the next big upgrade if Stevey boy wants more. I remember Steve's promise to give up drag racing when he runs a 10.

Which CDI units have you have had success with, I tried the DIS units and have not been that impressed, any ideas?
16V gave me clean spark from 28psi up to 33psi. I stopped there not the ignition.
If steve runs a 10.6-10.9 he may give it up. That rear wheel power should see 135mph which may return 10.0-10.3. If it does he's addicted. Just a little more and it will be a nine. Speed Junkies cant stop, I know someone just like him. Hahahaha!

You're not the only one!
It's called the 'fever' in PR!
Here in the US it's 'the need for speed'
Guess what? Steve got it allready. I'll bet he'll want to go quicker and quicker even more now!

I have to admit since my time on this forum with all the talk about drag racing and seeing a few meets in person latley it "gees you up" a bit to get into that sport, especially since there are so many rotaries out there now. I remember years ago Anthony (10+ with our obsession) that MANY people laughed at rotaries in general and called them RICE burners etc (hence my name!, to **** off booners!)

It is a very different situation now !

On the topic of who knows what, I agree whole hartedly, as a young guy starting out and up to not that long ago I had had similar feelings on the points Anthony mentioned in his last posts.

One of the few things I remeber from my brief education is that when you pick a field of persuit (for us its rotaries) it is a process of constant learning, the man who thinks he knows all, often ends up to be the man who knows least That is why forums like this should be a tool for all of us, a bit like the spirit and guide lines set by Felix Wankel all those years ago. "All related rotary research and developments shall be considered to be the property of all Wankel engine licence holders, in the aim of future growth and technological development of this engine principle"

We are not licence holders but we are all a family I believe, Anthony knows my feelings on this. And as a common force with this attitude we will have eventualy have world domination against all those piston engine driving countries !!!!

LOL .... I am getting carried away now

I think this is what seperates us from many other types of enthusiasts and makes rotaries what they are, a cult.

Any way, Steve good luck and I hope you get what you want, PS If you need a lighter driver to get a faster time call me

Maybe you guys should start coming over to the US to tune more. I think most of our more popular tuners either dont REALLY know how to tune(seems like they just ACT like they know whats going on), or they dont want to give up the secrets in fear that if too many people in the US figure out how to tune a rotary they will loose thier spot on top. Even if they were willing to tune everyones car "right" there are so few shops that it would be next to imposible for most people to get there. Its not like I can drive or pull my car 3 days one way to California for 4hrs of dyno tuning.

You guys just dont know how many people are driving around over here with enough mods to make 500+hp and are making high 300's or low 400's. Rx7's blowing up on the dyno on a daily basis in the US. I'm telling you guys, it seems to be getting MUCH worse as more and more people are converting over to single turbo and running high boost.

I'm so glad we've got some real tuners on the forum. This place is getting more and more informative every day.

STEPHEN

AJC13B,
Thanks for sharing this information with us. I know you said to disregard the RPM figures, but is there a translation for these figures? I wanted to know where you were actually building you maximum torque or how much you actually carried the RPMs on the dyno.
Thanks
Moespeed.
PS. This is one of the best-informative threads in a while. THANKS GUYS…

Ah, this thread is a Kodak moment

I don't have the money to make the car go quicker, ANDRA tech is a pain in the *** and I don't want to put a cage in it! Although Heathcote isn't ANDRA sanctioned, I may have an avenue for potentially quicker times with ANDRA approval

Moespeed - I can't tell you exactly what the RPM readings were as I was sitting in the back of the car trying to stop wheel spin I would say the readings are about 1.8 times the actual RPM figures or there abouts.

how about we all now have a group hug.

in regards to rotary's in the drag scene, we get aussie STREET MACHINE magazine at work and about 6 pages or so from the back is the top 10 street, this that and the other thing drag times, the bottom lot of 10 is the rotary list, considering its a V8 meat head lovers mag i think they have nuts to consistantly print the top ten times in which i am yet to see any of the v8 powered cars, some running upto 600cubes record a time faster than whatever is at the head of the top 10 rotarty cars it really puts the icing on the cake.

Cheers
Shane

PS: Peter can you please reply to that e-mail i sent you last night, Cheers

Group hug !!! HA HA HA

I could not agree more with the learning process. The day we think we know it all is the day we start forgetting. I find it amazing how many new things I stumble across, just when you think you have seen everything.

Steve's car was run up to around 8500rpm for a very brief run but most of the runs were done around the 5000 to 8000 range where the engine is going to be used for the majority of its racing time. I wish we had some track time to do further testing. I find alot of the time that the best dyno results are not always the best in the real world. Alot of the time I find a touch more advance on the road or track lets the engine rev a little faster and more free, even though the dyno might show the same power. The static power vs dynamic does change, and with fresh cooler air being fed to the front of the car it also effects things different.

I too am not that impressed with the DIS units. They do OK, but the gains are sometimes not worth the expense. The 7A series work OK. 6A I find only fractionally better than no CDI, but then again most of the cars I have seen running them were running dizzy and not making huge power. M&W's CDI work OK but lack multi-strike at low rpm so idle and light cruising get a little fluffy. Done a few rotaries running them and spark has been pretty good with no high rpm problems.Only seenone car with Crane ignition, but it was a V-hate and didn't really make enough power to have needed it, so it's hard to comment. Quite alot of the time the CDI's have caused more dramas than not having them. A few people on this forum and elsewhere seemed to think I had previosly said I hate CDI, where in fact I said it is something to be added after you get the engine tuned, and not a good thing to add at the same time you are tuning a new ECU because of the added complexity and problems it can bring.

Funny, we all say the same about Steve. If he runs a 10.4 to 10.9 he might stop, if its a 10.1 I can see the boost going to 29psi+ for a run or two. 9.99 will see him cartwheeling back to the pits. :-) The tuning should be Ok to 31psi so the option is there.
hint hint;-)

I have plans to go to the US and Canada (wife is Canadian) at the end of the year. Initially it was to help out customers who have purchased ECU's, but it has been a big shock to see how many people in the US really badly want someone to tune their cars. I posted to a Haltech email list the plans to come over and within 3 days received requests to tune over 50 cars !!!
What is going on over there ?

Actually, looks like I am heading to New Zealand around the 18th to 21st July for a spot of tuning. Also need to pick up my 3-rotor centreplate from Precision Engineering in Auckland and maybe take a gander at his 4-rotor engines.

HWO,
The irony is that if you read that magazine you will notice an RX4 (600c.i N2o), this car is one of my closest friends and one of my leading crew, I dynoed that one only days before it run its first seven. It is the owner/driver of this car that is responsible for them even publishing that list.
SPOautos,
I got your PM and will reply once a date is confirmed, I hope we may be able to help with some of your problems.
AJC13B- We have taken a poll and it is unanimous that you "Have the fever","You are a Junkie" and cannot resist the need for speed!!
GROUP HUG...

So the car made 450 to the wheels on 26psi, another 4 or 5 psi...

They says 1psi is worth 7hp

Don't get my hopes up for a 9

Steve, go for the 9's. The worst that could happen is 10's.

I am driving down ther tonight to watch him, may inspire me to take my car out & configure it for drags now that I have similar power to him.

I checked the weather on the net, it looks a bit dicey? might rain, I hope not, any updates appreciated.

I would like to catch up & meet with a few of you guys?
