how many msd's are you guys using and why?

I notice that some people are using more than 1 or 2 msd boxes, why? Im using 2 right now becuase my stock leading coil was shot(going through too many plugs also) so I went with 2 blaster ss coils, found out that 1 box isnt enough for 2 coils so I had to go by another box before I installed it .
Im wanting to know whats the effect on using 3 or 4 boxes? As far as I know theres no need to amplify the trailing becuase there just clean-ups, right? So, are you some of you using 3-4 boxes on the leading?

2 for the leading and 2 for the trailing
or
1 for the leading and 2 for the trailing

Its because the trailing get triggered at different times, the leading get triggered at the same time.

None.

The stock FC3S ignition system is extremely powerful.

If your not making tremendous amounts of horsepower, then its good enough.

say 400-500 rwhp? Im going for tunning on the 21 of sept. I need everything to be perfect. I though I should ask this ?? becuase alot people were questioning my ignition" why do you have 2 msd's?". Well the reason why is becuase I was going through too many plugs and also breaking up at high rpm's at only 10-12 psi.
I was told that 1 msd was not enough to power to msd coils, so I went with 2 msds instead of 1. Do I need a number 3?
So use 1 msd on the leading and 2 on the trailing. The reason I havent yet done so for the trailing is becuase I thought that there no need to amplify them. Need some more input. thanks for the replies.

If you want a "beefy" ignition setup, I would do what Badog recomended and run 4 boxes - 1 for each coil.

ok, I guess i will do so. I also have a few more questions about ignition. Is it best to use a coil with 2 post instead of going with two individuals? I was reading something about this a while back and there was a few saying not to do so, why?

i use 2 6AL'S and 2 race coils going through the locked dizzy and it works great for me!!!
however i would love to upgrade to a pair of digital 7 boxes..... those pump out more power than 10 6al's!!!!
pricey though at $700.00 each plus you have to buy new coils!!!!

The MSD twin post coil I use for the leading produces a much better spark then the 2 Blaster coils I use on the trailing.

I'm running all stock coils with one MSD6a on leading for a total cost of about $100. Some people upgrade the stock FD leading coil to a stock FC leading coil. The stock FC coil with one MSD6a is enough to make well over 500rwhp.

wouldn't 3 msd boxes get pretty expensive?
what's wrong w/ hks twin power?
how does 1 hks twin power compare to 3 msd boxes?
i thought hks helps spark in BOTH leading AND trailing (from what i heard) so why would there be a need for msd?

just had to ask

I dont think the hks is enough , I also dont no very many people using it either. The msd 6a(I really dont know why poeple use 6al) are about 140 each, so about 420 bucks, and + coils. How much is the hks?

I use two MSD 6A boxes and a pair of stock FC trailing coils for my leading set up , the trailing coils are stock FD .I went this way to try and get good power at a resonable cost and I also use H2O injection so I dont want any breaking up above 15psi. I plan to soon upgrade to a pair of MSD HVC coils on the lead and use the FC on the trail.

I recently spoke to a local mechanic / tuner guy who said that he spoke to MSD and they told him that runnin parallel input signals to a pair of MSD 6a amps to trigger a pair of separate coils at the same time ( exactly how I wired up my leading ignition ) would cause the amps to put out less voltage , anyone know if this is so ?.

I run 1 for leading and 2 for the trailing. the trailing fire at slightly different times.

Why not run one MSD 6a with one twin post MSD coil for the leading? The spark coming from this twin post motorcycle coil on My car is very strong compared to the trailing using a DIS 2 and Blaster 2 coils. I have no breakup now in upper RPM(8500)and 19 PSI running BGEV 11 plugs.
