Talking STRAIGHT OUTTA "CHILTONS"!!!!

::WARNING:: This testing procedure covers both leading and trailing side ignition coils;however, the coils differ in appearance and design. On the trailing side coil, there are 2 sets of terminals that require resistance checks, whereas the leading side has only one set. When checking the coil resistance,be sure to distinguish between the 2 coils.

1)Disconnect the negative(-) battery cable
2)Set your ohm-meter to the x1 scale, then connect the ohm-meter probes to the positive(+) and negative (-) coil terminals. On the trailing side, test BOTH sets of terminals.
3)If the resistance is above one(1) ohm, replace the coil.

P.S.-HAD MY ALTERNATOR TESTED,IT CAME BACK FINE!! ALSO IF U WANT ANSWERS FAST,POST IN THE GEN.2 SPECIFIC FORUM.ITS A LOT MORE ACTIVE THAN THIS FORUM!!!!

1)remove all 4 spark plug wires ends that go to spark plug
2)have someone crank vech
3)place spark plug wire on your tongue
4)if you your coils are ok!

here is a more simple way if you dont know what an ohm meter is. take a set off a car that you "know" is fine. if your problem has not been fixed by putting these on your car. that was not the problem. also try the ignitor (spelling?)

Ok here are the test results, I hope I did it right. I bought a Multitestor at Home Depot it was $20. I did the test w/ the coils completely off the car. I put both the (+), and the (-) terminals in the place where the ignition harness was hooked up to. (is that correct?) Then I did the test at the 200 setting and the results were .8 on t1, .6 onL, and .8 on t2. the tests on the 2k setting was .001 on all coils. Did I do the test right? if so are my coils good?

Well so far it sounds like you did it right. When u say u took the coils off,and put the + & -,in place do u mean the power wiring??? If I were u I would put the coils BACK ON and do the test following the proceedure, and see if anything changed!!!As far as setting the meter,I have/use a MANNIX multi-meter,to get a proper OHM reading u can use the 2M,2K,or 200 setting.I prefer to use the 2m or 2k scale.REMEMBER you are looking resistance HIGHER than 1 OHM,NOT LOWER!!! I would assume that a lower resistance would be OK,but any higher and you've got a problem.

If your STILL NOT sure try what he said~>

P.S.-I'm getting a new engine and bodywork, done for free!!!! ALSO I managed to get my hands on another car!!! I was GIVEN an '86 mustang SVO TURBO!!

Um.. I have tested known bad coils with an ohm meter that read out .5 or .6 :\ The way I like to do it is, take a new plug, one at a time remove one of your plug wires and attach it to the new plug. Place plug on grounded part of car. Start car. Look for spark. Repeat with other plug wires... Or if you REALLY want to do it easy, just hook up a TIMING LIGHT to each wire and see if it fires!!!

just unplug one at a time while the car is on, if you get shocked its good, if no shock its bad!
