Going Carbed on 2ndgen need help !

This is what a guy said to me about going carbed. I want to do it but its hard to understand.

What he did, was just snip all the wires for the fuel injection, and leave the computer to run the ignition, he kept the stock coils and crank angle sensor. What I'm gonna do though, is find a distributor from an early 13b. This was I will be able to get rid of the computer all together. His runs fine the way it is though. I would assume that his check engine light would always be on though :-P

The FC check engine light will only illuminate when it's not getting a reasonable signal from an essential input circuit only.

With that said, why would you want to take such a giant step backwards? The stock FI works great, and is able to make better power over a wider range of circumstances than a carb ever can. Simple piggybacks such as the S-AFC can tune whatever anomolies modifying the stock system might introduce, at far less cost than a manifold+carb setup.

i love carbs for simplicity. nothing beats that. this swap can be done easily. you can PM me for some info if interested of need manifolds for a 6 port motor. but YES. it is a big step backwards. if your stock EFI works, why change it? i used a holley 650DP mechanical secondaries on my old 6 port motor in my old rx2 on a 13B for a while, and it worked great. as far as cost... you can make your own manifold for a few bucks... like i said PM me.

If you have a big streetport then hell yeah just go for the carb. True it is a big step backwards in technology but if you know how to tune it properly then it will work great. The stock FI system while good, isn't going to account for a port job and required tuning. The S-AFC just being a piggyback computer does help tune but only in a limited fashion. Many people use them like they are the best thing in the world but they aren't. They are a bandaid for little problems. Yes you'll get increased power and they aren't too expensive but they still rely on the stock afm for input. This is a big restriction which the carb doesn't have. My friend has a streetported GSL-SE with a weber carb and it revs like a bat out of hell. My ported GSL-SE doesn't rev near as fast. His is also a little quicker. The downside is that his is a real pain in the *** when it is cold. If you are just racing who cares? Go for it. Ultimitely a stand alone computer would be the best option though but very expensive.

Ok thnx rotorygod...Ill consider it. Dont know why everyone thinks I wont make any good power with it. I have another thread to and most say its no good yet they dont have one...I cannot afford the standalone nor the tuning

Because thiers alot more to it then that. Pluss I wouldnt be able to rev to 9500 on a stock turbo unless it was modified. Then I would need an intercooler , radiator exc

Id rather stay N/A and rev the **** out of it and be known for beating turbo cars at our local races here.
Mucho Respecto for that
