the old school way is to remove a trailing spark plug, and crank it over (by hand is ok), it should make 6 even puffs, if its not something is wrong.

the 12A is a nice engine to learn how to build engines on, its easy to get in and out of the car, and all the parts are big and simple. in fact you may by money ahead by just pulling the engine out, pulling it apart and changing all the rubber bits and seals.

or you can pull the engine apart, buy a bridgeport template, and put it back together and then you're making ~180hp instead of 100...

Well I would like to keep it rotary, and do you think I could be within 200 bucks of selling the 12a and getting a 13brew? Anything else I should know before I see it tonight?

Ok,just saw it tonight and it wasn't in an accident, just bumped in the door hinge area. It doesn't need much, just the carb to be rebuilt and brake work. It ran,he put a carb kit in,and it started flooding and he quit working on it since.

there is overspray on the muffler, and tow hooks. plus the bumper is the wrong one, yet the paint matches the rest of the car.

it also looks like the passenger door is a different color under the red. the bumper appears to be white under the red.

if the car was not painted, the tow hooks would be black.

again, not a super big deal, but just don't think this car rolled out of the showroom, and parked in the forest...

Ok,so I haven't made up my mind on whether to do a 2jz or keep it rotary. Main thing is price of a transmission that will take the power, rotary has more power potential in my budget, but I'm worried about tranny being too expensive. But I don't even know where to look,Atkins had nothing really. Any brands I should look for on each?

If you are going to keep it rotary, the "easy" swap is a whole T2 engine and transmission. The FC subframe will bolt in with a little work and the transmission on the FC is darn near bullet proof. That will put you in the 210HP range and will make the car an absolute rocket. I used to have an FB in high school and my buddy had one with a ported 12A with a side draft Dellorto. I thought he was going to kill us so many times. That little FB he had was freakishly quick, and it only made 150HP. Do a search on FC subframe swaps and FB T2 swaps. With a little work, a stock T2 can make 300HP, which in a 2100 lb car like an FB is just plain scary.

my buddy has a full bridge T51 car, and @500hp he passes turbo Porsche's like they are stopped, the Rx7 is light, and the rotary has a wider powerband, so it is fast
Do you have a link to that fc? I tried searching and in getting spammed by some model rocket company and their website only has a link to email them.

Also, got a video of your friends 500? Looking to get some comparison on how fast 500 really is in an rx7. Or even a 1/4 time would help me understand better.

Ok,so now I'm thinking that I should go 2jz. I've been reading on the forums here and unless the fc is magically stronger than what I've been reading about cracked irons and that sort of deal. That and the car I'm looking at not only has the 13b in it,but it also has a 2jz block. Anyone know where a good tranny for the 2jz can be found?
