Dry sump pump sizing?
Just wondered if anyone knows how you're supposed to go about sizing dry sump pumps and whatnot... more scavenge volume means you pull more crankcase vacuum, but is there such a thing as too much? And how big does the pressure side have to be, since excess pressure is obviously just going to go through the relief valve anyway... so again, is there a point where there's just plain too much volume?

More pump parts = more HP drag. Since there is only one place to pull oil from you should only need one scavenge circuit, but, if you are pulling high G's a pick-up on each side is good so two scavenge circuits if you go with a flat pan to lower the engine.
The car we are running right now can't lower the engine because of rules so we just use a stock pump in the stock pan that sends the oil to the tank. Then we modified a pump off a V8 we had laying around to make it single stage pump that draws from the tank and feeds the engine front and rear. The stock pump keeps the pan pretty empty and never has a problem repriming if it ever sucks some air.
Hope this helps a little.

Its on the passenger side in the car about where passengers right knee would be. The system holds 12 quarts, most of it in the tank, but we run two stock oil coolers too. So I think its a 12 quart tank because we don't run it totally full. We then have the passenger side all closed in with aluminum and carbon fiber covers.
