ceramic wool on muffler?

Sent my CAR to get a custom header and mullfer fab. Every one know rotary run super hot !!! and most of street muffler cant not stand the heat of rotary. So I was wonder did any one rebuild their muffler, if their muffler got burn down by rotary. The muffler I am plan using is JIC titanium muffler , I think most of japanese muffler come with stainless steel wool in the muffler(I used HKS for a while, it hold up pretty good but start to show the sign of wear) . My Q if I ever come to rebuild the muffler what material should I use thinker stainless steel wool, or go cermic wool? BTW MY CAR is 13B PP road race car

Mufflers

First trick is to find a muffler thats actually re-buildable, most or ALL the full stainless or titanium mufflers are welded shut. I've only seen some of the carbon fiber canned mufflers being re-buildable. Once you find and spend the cash on a re-buldable muffler you need to find packing for it. I have no idea were to get it, but a search on the net should yield some results. For rotary, use either all high temp stainless, or if you want better noise supression, loosly wrap the muffler tube with satinless first (the stainless wont clog up with soot or carbon as bad as ceramic and it will protect the ceramic from heat slightly) Then pack the rest of the muffler with HIGH temp ceramic packing. Forget the usual fiberglass packing, it'll last litteraly minutes. i've done this for super bike mufflres, works great and is easy. If anyone knows were to get 2 1/2 " in and out straight threw re-buildable mufflers and / or high temp packing lemme know. I'd really like to see a 9" round 16-20" long muffler with a offset outlet thats re-buildable. preferably all stainless construction and carbon wrapped stainless body.

thanks for reply. I think most of muffler on the market is not rebuildable. mabe is they make so cheap. when it worn out u just went out to buy a new one. SO far I senn JG/edelbrock , and the one sell by MAZDA SPEED
.are rebuildable. I think when It come to the time when I need to rebuild my JIC titanium muffler. I think I will find a shop to cut the muffler apart and re packing with hight temp stainless steel and ceramic muffler

just make sure you dont use kaowool ceramic packing. the fibres are so small they blow out the muffler and you end up breathing them and they are no good for you. Use a long fiber ceramic if you can find some

Racing Beat mufflers are stainless wool and ceramic packed already... they last a long time.. infact i have yet to see one burnt out. Some claim they have seen them burnt cause it got louder.. but I think theirs just got carboned up making the packing innaffective and louder.
i personally like the RB tips also, im not one for the rice fart cannon tips, but to each their own.

a possible source for high temp. stainless steel wool would be filter material for vent suctions in foundries.

no idea where it comes from, but that is a use for the stuff.

build your own muffler I did and it is tuneable and cheap and and can thoes beresting back fire we all kown. So clear your minds becouse I don't have a pic of it,day or so I can have one. Start with 2 1/2 ,3ft long ,cut in hafe, weld a plate in the middle and reatach the two sections. So now you have 3ft with somthing in the middle blocking flow. About 12" befor and afther dill lots a same holes 1/8 to 3/16 or so.Next a sell like a glass pack or any thing like,if you can make this shellremovable then it's tuneable by makeing the some of them holes bigger. The gole is to check back perssuer, drill holes until the back perssuer just drops off to 0psi or it feels good to you.I fot got I'm running a RX4/2nd gen suspension with twin turbos, twin K jetrnic fuel injection

Gambone is right - you can build your own. RB mufflers are very expensive and may not have the tube size you desire.
You can get stainless wool from mcmaster.com. Use the course not the fine strand. You can also buy perforated steel sheet from mcmaster and form that into a tube then weld, instead of drilling hundreds of holes.
I've made presilensers and rear mufflers. They sound similar to RB, way way better than an off the shelve fart can, and show no signs of deterioration.

Where there is a will there is always a way.
