CDI considerations/suggestions

I'm currently considering upgrading my ignition. Presently, I've got 3x Jacob's Pro Street for my leadings and 3x LS1 coils for my trailings. I've been looking pretty seriously at the M&W Pro-16 because there aren't many other high quality systems out there that support the 20B (if I'm incorrect, please correct my ignorance) as a single package. I don't want to spend the money for two 500R boxes.

Along with the Pro-16, I was looking at the M&W ferrite coils. I know very little about them. The only related information that I found was Carlos Iglesias' experience with the MM ferrite coils. His ferrites cracked and failed. Is this a common occurrence with all of this type of coils or brand specific? That being asked, are the M&W ferrite coils nice/reliable/durable?

Any experience/information to help me build my 20B CDI system well is greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

The MW ferrite coils are very powerful. I use them and I have no issues with them. However they are fragile and caution needs to be used when mounting them. Make sure to use some sort of protection underneath the coils to keep them from breaking due to viberation. Also use the mounting brackets for them.
They work in mercury boats and are reliable when installed properly...

As for the PRO-16, thats a very clever unit. It can handle the 3 rotor but you need to make sure you wire it with all the leading on one coil and the trailing on the other coil. This way it has enough time to handle the split.

Which ecu are you going to use?

I'm running the Haltech e11v2 right now with no real intentions of upgrading anytime soon. MoTeC is big money and the e11v2 is treating me right so far.

If you don't mind, can you please explain a little more about the Pro-16? Are you saying that a single Pro-16 box can run the 3 Rotor? On their (M&W) site, they mention that the Pro-16 for the 20B consists of 2 boxes. I'd love to only run one if that were possible for cleanliness and simplicity of the loom, and also to be able to increase the distance between it and other electronics (albeit only by a little).

Do you have any pictures of how you mounted your coils? Or is it really just a case of a few rubber bushings doing the job?

Thanks again enzo.

Just wanted to be sure to post these up in case what I was trying to say in the last post wasn't making sense.

The "2-box set" is indicated on this screenshot from their website.

This diagram would seem to support the fact that there are 2 boxes required being that each box only seems to have one harness connection per the diagrams/pictures that they have on their site.

to_slow also seemed to intimate that only a single box was necessary is why I'm stumbling on this. I think that I am just misunderstanding; and that what is meant is that only a single Pro-16 (which consists of 2 boxes) is required.

Thanks again for chiming in.
