What coils for 13BT and 4ch CDI

Hi,

What coils should I use on my 13BT? Engine will sit in a 1st gen RX-7, controlled by Autronic SM2 and coils will be fired from a Autronic 500R 4 channel CDI. At the moment I have a set of stock 2nd gen coils, not sure on how they will work with the CDI.

I've heard good things about Crane LX92..

I can get Bosch coils designed for CDI use from the local dealer (they will cost about the same as 4 LX92's).

What would be optimal, 2 single ended and one double ended (like the stock setup) or 4 single ended units?

Any input?

Regards,
Frode

Well, since you brought it up let me tell you what i just went through. I have an msd 6a cdi used in the direct fire set-up with fc leading coil pack. Like many other people on this forum, there was not a spectacular performance increase and some say it is not worth it. I also noticed my spark plugs get black with carbon even though my a/f ratio is not very rich. I happen to come across the Nology Profire dual output CDI coil and it made a noticeable difference. It is a little pricey at $90 but the spark plugs stay in better shape from what I can tell so far and idles better. Not exactly sure what the difference is between a CDI coil and regular stock one. Anyone care to explain?

LX92 all the way !

I am running 4 of these on my R500 and SM2 !

I had two LX92's and two crane CDI's on my old set up and they ROCKED !. Great coil and very cheap.

I will ahve my new set up running very soon and am sure it will more than handle what I want it to do.......
