ya I have seen that. just about the MSD CDI.
i had the msd 6al, i really liked it. i duno how it compares to other brands but i was pretty pleased with it. had all the benefits that 88gtu says above i also noticed a much better startup hot or cold, i would only have to let it crank 2 or 3 times and it would fire right up.
The Jacobs FC1000:
-Analog
-440V Output Voltage
-97 mJ of spark energy (up to 6 sparks per combustion event).
-Multispark for 22 degrees of crankshaft rotation.
It's put together very well. Nice crimped and sealed connectors.

Most CDI boxes will work with the stock coils. only on rare occasions would you ever change the coils.
MSD, Crane Cams, Mallory, Jacobs and a few others will be able to work with your stock coils. They would all work better with either Their ignition coils or some other aftermarket coils such as bosch, msd blaster, microtech coils etc would all be able to produce that much more energy to the plug. But the real question is, do you really need those coils? most of the time you dont unless you are racing but its always nice to have new performance stuff under the hood
