Apex Seals

I just checked out the Hurley Rotary website and they have a whole lot of different types of apex seals and i was wondering if anyone had ever heard of htem or if anyone knew how well some of their products work. Some of which included upto a 4mm seal and another style that they sold was called the duplex seal and this design actually looked really good. So here is the address and any help on this would be greatly appreciated. www.hurleyrotary.com

Most people around this section of the forum know them somewhat well. Hmmm 4mm seal. I don't remember that one, kinda scary, isn't it
If you search for Hurley on the forum you'll find quite a lot, thing is finding good info compared to them being mentioned one time.

Hurley is very good, But what you "need" depends on your goals. What sort of hp and psi levels (if you are turbo) are you wishing to achieve?
The more accurate you are in stating the goals of your question. The more accurate your answeres will be.

I'm looking to run around 25 psi for boost with everything built up and just let the hp ratings do their own thing. With past experience i've found that puttin aprojected hp is kinda crazy cause there is no telling what you'll make with what setup. I'd like ot see between 5-600 whp.

why does no one talk about 4mm apex seals? cause they are useless

even 3mm seals are doubtable and are more of a safety margin when tuning.

I say go for 2 mm 3 piece factory apex seals

Why not single piece, you would think they are stronger since they are solid and have fewer fractions in them?

I guess i've always heard that the major upgrade for these cars would be the 3mm apex seal. But apparantly not? I would think that they would be stronger and that having them as a safety precaution would be could. But correct me if i'm wrong.

different parts of the seal need to shift around a bit more than others, it takes a lot more time and effort to make 3 piece apex seals as opposed to 2 and 1 piece seals, do you really think mazda would continue to make 3 piece seals if they thought 2 piece or 1 piece seals were the way to go?

This is the only reasoning I would use for milling 2mm grooves for 3mm seals only: As the seal gets worn down, they become more prone to fracturing when they get thin. A 3mm seal should be less likely to break from detonation or some other condition that could cause a seal failure as a 2mm seal with the same amount of material worn down. However 2mm seals have been proven to be quite good from '86 on. Unless you're going to push the envolope of amazing boost levels, you'll likely be best off with 2mm sealing.
