OK i need some help guys. Im in desperate need of something to lower my exhaust sound down. WE just messured it with 2 mufflers and a 4" cat on it. And at idle it's 101db, at 4500 rpm it's 113db. And reving it to 6000 rpm fast gives out 128.9db :P

This was messured at a 45 degree angel, half a meeter away and half a meeter off the ground according to the FIA specs.

And to be able to race the car next year it has to be 100db at 5000 rpm :P

So i got a huge sound problem eh

Make a big pre-silencer. I remember reading in the N/A forum about exhausts, and rotarygod made a well typed post about how you can quite down the exhaust, and still make decent power.

WOuld You consider an electric dump valve right after your header?
After this dump you could silence it all you want with whatever piping size and cat you want.

BUt its gonne be hella loud when u open that thing up....

well since I'm assuming that he's trying to say that the tracks don't allow above 100 decibels, would mean a dump is not the solution.

One thing that I might be doing (I hit 123 decibels measuring right at the tip at 7k rpm) which would only work with a dual tip muffler is take a 180 bend put it over the 2 holes of the muffler. and right at the bottom drill a hole (perpendicular to where it was coming off of and put a 90 degree bend there. My theory is that the pulses banging against each other should get it to quiet down quite a bit. I should be doing this sometime soon and see how things go.

All i can say for now is, charchemistry exhaust inserts work, but they are too restrective for our exhaust. It dropped my db to 97 from 107 at 4500 rpm But i lost way too much power, so it will come out asap :P

I have another idea.
Do what the did with the fc's.
Make dual exhaust so u can be quiet and have the flow.

What do you guys think?

Dual exhaust always complicates things, and adds a fair chunk of weight to the car.

Those Char Chemistry tip should work, but ya they work by restricting quite a bit of flow. Kinda like how my old home made ones work, but same thing too restrictive for anything above 4k or so in my opinion. The new way should be better.

Had the car out on the track yesterday. After some messing with a exhaust insert to quiet down the noise we messured 97db at 4500 rpm. But it was too restrective, so i lost way to much power. So it will be removed this week. But the noise went up and up, as the silencing jot burnt up :P But look at carchemistry

Now it was the first real test of the car and it was pretty good to drive. But will need to go back to power steering as it was way too hard to turn into corners. And to correct if it would spin out or loose rear grip. So a power steering will go on as soon as i can find a good electrical one.

Now i have a strange vibration in the rear, wich i think comes from the new breaks. I will need to investigate, but when pushing the car, the same sound(vibration is there). But u can't feel the vibreation, but you can hear it.

Other then that, the water temps where about 92 degreece, ambient air temps where 28 degreece and about 80% humidity. Oil temps tho where abit high, 110 degrece after 7 laps. But this is mainly due to the oil, as i was running on 10-40 mineral oil. And the fact that my cooling ducts to the oil coolers only covers about half the oil coolers. Will make new ducting to get the entire surface of the coolers coverd.

So got some more work to do on it.

Cool Jantore. Been following your build.... great work and incredible project. So, 28C equates to just a little over 82F correct... very nice. Yes, once you get the ducting to your coolers straightened out your oil temps should come down considerably. I can't remember who you said built your e-shaft. Was it supplied from someone in Japan or Australia?? Keep up the incredible work. Your project is an inspiration!

Thanks

The shaft is made by Jeff Bruce in New Zealand. And is probably the only one making 4 rotor eshafts at the moment.

Hmm you're the second FD owner now that I know that thought the car is too hard to steer into the corners without power steering. I wonder if maybe you could reduce the caster by a few degrees so that it doesn't allow it to steer straight as easily? Could be a cheaper and less weight option.

I thought that SCOOT was building his own e-shafts but I may be wrong.

Here is a short film with a few seconds of me and my car. But it's filmed by someone else so it's alot of other cars on it as well. As it's a track day for sportscars Even have some Porsche 911 GT2, GT3, turbos and so on. And even a radical ssr or what its' called.

it would have been. if i had power steering. and i found out that my throttle cable adjustment had gone in, so i had max 88% throttle. Wich reduces alot of power and i was running with a exhaust sliencer insert from carchemistry so i had about 100rwhp les then what i should have had. but we had a good time with a late break and understear and almost off the track in the last corner where we lost about 4 sec that was realy good. Just 2 sec behind my fastest lap ever on the track. So i guess i would have beaten my best time with about 2 sec had i not gone off the track

So power steering is coming back on the car this fall/winter and with more power from now on it should be alot faster. And next year we will turn upp the revs to 9200 rpm from 8200 now. And put in a CDI ignition system. So that should lift my HP about 130-150rwhp somewhere compeard to what i have now.

Wow you are only turning 8200 on a PP? Whats stopping you from revving that thing out to 10.5k? Isn't that where it would make the most power?

yes, but the lifespan of the engine is not long at 10500 rpm. It will max be pulled to 9500 rpm. That's tops

Just wanted to let you all know the car had it's first real full track weekend. And the engine performed flawless. I used up about 49 gallons of fuel or 180 liters of fuel. And clocked about 120 laps from friday untill today

I did not have to touch a thing, except put on a extra mufler and point the exhaust away from the noise meeter that was on the track. I did get blackflagged a few times for noise :P

The engine is so smooth to drive, and i can realy push it so hard going out of corners The power curve is so smooth. But i need about 1000 more revs for gear changing to get into the perfect range when going up a gear.

Now it's time to take almost everything apart soon and check over everything.

I hope i will be able to get ahold of some film footage of the car on the track very soon.

Oh i almost forgot. It was raining today while driving one of the heats, and i was actually power sliding the car trough the corners. You could almost say drifting it, and it was sooo smooth to drive on the wet
