Alternator

i've seen many drag racers move who use 13bt and their alternator to the side where the power steering pump use to be, what benifits does it give if anyone knows? i don't see what it would do adcept free up space on top and also eliminate the water pump am i correct?

The only reason to move an alternator would be to make access to other components easier or make room for mods that it may interfere with.
As far as eliminating a mechanical water pump you still have to mount an electrical somewhere and the block that mounts to the front cover where the water pump was at would not interfere with the alternator. At least not the one I am familiar with.

interesting, do most racers make custom brackets or do they buy them somewhere, i want to move my alternator to the side because it takes up space on top, because i might be getting a top mount intercooler just a little bit bigger, nothing over 15 PSI though.

If there is a custom bracket for the side I have not seen one. I would suspect if anyone had one it would be Racing Beat. Most racers would make them because it is a relatively easy fab compared to some of the other fab work.

If there was enough interest BI State Customs could fabricate the brackets up and offer a group rate to everyone. If we were going to make new brackets then we might as well make the bracket so it woule fit up to a smaller aftermarket alternator.

We could even offer it as a bolt on kit that came with the bracket and alternator.

Any interest in this?

right now, a smaller alternator would be a very bad thing, series 4 FC pumps out like 70 AMP? some real ***** ****, maybe if you made some brackets for 13BT to house a FD alternator then alot of people would be interested, **** i'll be interested a stock series 4 alternator on a 13bt with mechanic pump.

I tell you what. I'll make a bracket for mine and post pictures. I'll then see how much of a response it gets.

The stock water pump on an FD has the brackets for the alternator as part of the casting. Removing the water pump leaves you nowhere to mount the alternator. I'm pretty sure this is not an FD only problem...

The electric water pump adapter from Meziere is only a little plate to direct coolant, it doesn't include any way to re-mount the alternator, so you have to come up with something. Easiest seems to be to move it where the power steering, A/C pumps mount.

I haven't even been able to look at it yet. We've been swamped here at the shop with motor/turbo rebuilds.

I'll be able to get going on this around 2 weeks or so and let you know.
