Aftermarket muffler for HIGH horsepower applications
Aftermarket muffler for HIGH horsepower applications
I'm looking for any suggestions for a muffler to put on a custom, straight through, 3", single exit exhaust. I'm goign for maximum flow here, noise is not THAT much of a concern... but you know, it would help a bit if it didn't make my car sound like a freight train.
Basically, I want something that will flow a TON of exhaust, not melt under the rotary heat, have a 3" inlet and at least a 3" outlet (I don't want anything ricey, but a rolled tip would be nice)

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I was personally thinking of going with the Borla muffler, but they sell them in a TON of different sizes. Does anyone know which size fits a 2nd gen rx7 the best?
Also, with the universal N1 muffler, does that have an angled exit like some of their catback systems? Is that muffler available in different dimensions, or is it truly a universally fitting piece?

Kurgan,
I've always loved the note of the ATR "pitbull" muffler, which is about as straight through with no obstructions as you can get. It also sounds awesome. If my arm were a little skinnier, i could stick it straight through
My video in the sig has what it sounds like on a supra, not sure what it sounds like on an RX7, and they are priced decent as well, and its a 3" design.

Borla XR-1 all the way.
A friend of mine just isntalled an exhuast of a 500+ CI GTA. It consisted of long tube headers to 3" collectors, each collector feed to a 3" in/out XR-1 (the straight through ones) that y-piped to 4". From there it went over the rear axel and into a 4" in/out XR-1 (also straight through) to a 4" tip out the back.
The car was absolutly DEEFINING at idle with the straight headers, with the exhuast its down right QUEIT at idle... Its truley amazing.
My plans for my 20b will be 4" DP to 4" in/out XR-1, to a 3" y-pipe, to a 3" in/out XR-1 on each side. Should be damn queit at idle and still shoot flames and make TONS of power.

DO NOT get a FLOWMASTER! I had one put on today and it is fricken way loud! I need ear plugs to drive my car... The note out the tailpipe is not bad but it resonates through the whole car... I imagine since it is not insulated? All I know is its worse than my dual N1.
