I don't recall the exact physical data behind his decision, but a friend who is building up his S5 T-II is using a FD manifold. For your reference, most of his car is going to be custom fabbed, but I think he came to the conclusion that it would flow better for his purposes (street port, upgraded turbo, FMIC) and I don't recall it being an "exact" fit (as in, bolt-on). Perhaps if you search some more you can get the reasoning behind this "canned" answer.

the FD manifold flows more air, as it the runners are bigger, also it lets you use the FD throttle body, which is bigger too. Just so you know, FD manifolds do not bolt up to the S4 or S5 motors. If you want, I have an adaptor plate that allows you to use an S5 LIM, with FD UIM and throttle body. PM me if you are interested...

No, the LIM for the S5 and FD are not the same, otherwise you wouldn't need the adapter to make them bolt up.

if the s5 tii mani is like the s4 one, it has straight runners coming from a plenum fed by a throttle body while the fd one has curved runners adjacent to a plenum . . curved runners support the "tournament effect" in rotary induction, where a closing port causes a mild positive pressure wave that intersects the incoming air at the top of the u shaped runner, and supports the incoming wave of the other side of the u to the opposite port. Check out the N/a S3, S4, S5, and RX8 intake manis to see this feature. S5 mani had a variable distance U "variable dynic induction or VDI" and RX8 probably features same technology.

Actually the FD manifold runners are smaller than the T-II manifold runners. This is interesting since the FD throttlebody is larger.

ACTUALLY....... the 3rd gen runners are both bigger yet smaller..LOL.

The 3rd gen intake has larger secondaries and smaller primaries when compaired to a series 5 intake. Its has a ever so slightly longer runnner length, I think flows better not only because the larger throttle body bore, but it has less bends and the ones that are there are more gradual. the TII series 5 lower intake is a better design having straighter runners and having the secondaries injectors farther from the intake port, but the 3rd gen intake enters the motor at an angle is better then the abrupt turn for the perpendicular ports of the series 4,5.

BOTH series 4, 5 and 6 (n/a, and turbo) use the "tournament effect" intake. The series 4, 5 do not have a plenium feeding the runners, its just like the 3rd gen intake but wrapped around 90 degrees.

so... for someone with a street ported S5 TII motor looking for more, the best setup would be the S5 LIM mated to the FD UIM via adapter plate along with the FD throttle body? I already have the Greddy FMIC kit installed in my S5 TII. WIll the FD throttle body line up the same so I don't have to modify the piping? Thanks.

You'll have to modify piping.

the kit looks like the RE Amemiya FC2000 kit. either the real thing or a knock off. either way, its a nice upgrade, imho
