3 coil hook up using MSD 6AL

Help! I read an article on the web about using 3 coils and the MSD 6AL on the 13B. This system was called a wasted spark. Two of the coils wire directly to the spark plugs and this 3rd coil runs thru the dist. The one thing it didn't cover very well was the hook up of the 3rd coil. I know it needs to wire to the dist. ignitor, but does it also need a switched hot wire to fire this coil. Please any help well be greatly appreciated.

Two leading coils connected directly to the plugs and fired by the msd. One trailing left stock and run through the distributor cap.

That's the only part I understand. What my concern is the plus and minus wires. I suspect they go to the ignitor plus and minus. Here's where I get stupid, is there a switched hot wire? What makes the coil know when to fire? I appreciate you're reply, but I just can't grasp the understanding.
Thanks

Do you have a functioning ignition system now? Is it still stock?
If so, you don't need to change as much stuff.

Just leave the trailing stock. Keyed power to (+) on trailing ignitor and trailing coil. Connect (-) terminal of trailing ignitor to (-) terminal of trailing coil.

General overview of leading setup with a 3 coil setup:

Keyed power goes to (+) on leading ignitor and MSD small red wire. Leading ignitor (-) goes to MSD white wire. MSD orange wire goes to (+) terminal of one of the leading coils. Make a jumper wire to connect the (+) terminals of the leading coils together. MSD small black wire goes to (-) terminal of one of the leading coils. Make a jumper wire to connect the (-) terminals of the two leading coils together. MSD big Black goes to (-) ground. MSD big RED goes to (+) battery. MSD has an internal fuse so no additional fuse is required for this wire.

Check MSD instrustions if you get confused. You may want to doodle over the sketch to correct it for your car.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks, but that's the article that got me in trouble. It's a great start with no finish. I e-mailed the guy and didn't hear back. Not sure if he's still around.
Thanks for trying to help though.

That article wants you to omit the stock ignitor. I think this is unnecessary unless you have a failed ignitor and not replacement. You can trigger the MSD his way or my way. My way is easier. I have a theory that my way is betterbecause you don't lose the dwell supplied by the ignitor.

I know I'm being a pain in the butt, but this car I'm working on has no wiring what so ever and I'm trying to hook everything up starting from this. Is it possible to send a sketch of the wiring as you have described it. I know this is asking for a lot of your time, but I'm not a wiring sort of guy. Thanks

See if you can sketch it per the discription posted. It will be a good exercise. Post your result and we will check it for you.

Yea!! I figured it out. Now if my junk yard engine will start I'll be off like a rocket. Thanks to everyone that helped with this problem. When you live in the sticks long enough you start to think like the cows. Thanks again.
