1st Gen RX7 Oil Cooler

Hi have a 84 GSL-SE with oil leak suspect its the oil cooler as they are known for this problem has 42,000 original miles. Anyone know ifit can be fixed or does it need to be replaced which they are hard to find. I was talking to a Ford guy this summer who used to race Mazda's he told me Pep Boys sells a transmision cooler that should be able to replace the oil cooler gave me part # I was wondering if anyone has heard of this or used it. Would appreciate and feedback on this.

don't even think about using any Pep boy's tranny cooler for a rotary; it will not be good enough. If you put in a wimpy transmission oil cooler, you will over heat your engine oil and ruin your rotary engine.

try and figure out exactly where your leak is. Sometimes they leak around the boss where the fittings screws in. If it is the boss, then it can be heli-arc welded and repaired.

Maybe there is not a crack in the cooler; maybe it is a leaking seal washer where the fitting screws in, or maybe it is a bad hose. Try and diagnose exactly where the source of the leak is.

You can also find used oil coolers on ebay and the classified ads on this site too.

they aren't that hard to find.
get a second gen oil cooler.
cheap, plentiful, and an improvement over stock.
but follow speedturn's advice first.

The gsl-se oil cooler is bigger than the FC one. My advice is to take you cooler off and have it fixed at a radiator repair shop.
