What were your 60' times? Do you have drag radials or street tires? Here is a good website for how to launch your car. http://www.rotarypowered.com/faqlaunching.html
This is where I learned the basics of launching an FD. I have not got it down yet, but practice makes perfect.

Well check out the site and see if it helps. If your 60' times were much worse then 2.2 or so then you need to practice some more. Were you dumping the clutch or slipping the clutch? The launch is the most critical part of the race. However much time you waste in the first 60' is double by the time you cross the finish line so if you blow .5 seconds on the launch then you blow 1 second total. 1.7's are descent launches with drag radials. Anything below 2.0's is ok for street tires.

your tires and your launch will play the two most siginificant roles in a drag race. So consider practice and a decent set of tires. I have two drag radials that i use for the track and special street events. you should aim for a 2.0-2.2 60' time. on good street tires. if you have crappy tires then it's a lost cause my friend.

On street tires I try to launch my FD between 3000 and 3500. Anything under 3000 and the engine boogs badly anthing over 3500 and I spin the tires all the way to redline. I dump the clutch every time its a stock clutch and slipping it makes it smell funny . Plus I bracket race and I could not be consistent slipping it. My car is stock and the best ive run in the 1/8 is 9.1 on street tires with a 2.1 to 2.2 60ft. The only thing that sucks about lauching in such a narrow RPM range is trying to keep it steady in that range keep your eyes on the stagging lights at the same time. Hope that helps.

Never throw your timeslips away... Experiment with different launch techniques, RPMs, air pressures, etc so you can scientifically see what works and what doesn't. If you don't, you won't be as quick as you could be. Drag racing is just as much the driver as it is the car, and you have to tune both to be good.
