need advice for a Solo I car

wasnt sure where to put this post but i figured most of the techie guys would chip in a good post or two. so forgive me if i screwed up

Im looking to start open road racing with lots of driving school, and possibly venturing into Solo I. I have been looking at Rx7's for a while and am torn between 1st gen and FD (yea yea big diff). Only difference is that the fd would only have the reliability mods(radiator, ast, non seq, new hoses, dp, ecu) and function as a daily driver

and 1st gen would be all out race car, and id have a second vehicle for DD. with the 1st gen im open to suggestions, 12A, 13b BP PP NA, turbo ,supercharger what ever, supprise me.

Basically im looking for around 300 to 330hp on either car I would like a broad power band somewhere in between idle and redline =), fairly easy to drive, forgiving suspension/chasis, fairly cheap to rebuild...

im all ears

Ryan

I think the 1st gen is not too bad, simple and easy to modify.

I used my FD to be the solo car, it was great experience esp. when you spin out of the track.

keep in mind that when you modify cars you have to modify them within your class range. Look up the Solo1 class rules in SCCA and then decide which will be better for you. Since the FD is a faster car in general, I'm sure the competition will be very stiff because there will be a lot of good drivers there. If you want a cheap racer go with the 1st gen and compete in pro7 class, you can build a full race car for only $4-5K. By the way, daily driving an FD costs a lotta money in the long run when you have to deal with repairs and maintenance. I've been daily driving mine for about 2 and a half years and I've spent thousands of dollars on repairs only.
