Question $1000, what should I upgrade first?

I just got my RX7 and it is factory everything. Do you have any suggestions on what to upgrade first? Any regrets of your first big $$$ upgrades? I was looking at the PFS intercooler/air box upgrade. Any opinions on this set of hardware?
Thanks
-Dave

Get a stainless steel downpipe first and then order a vacum hose kit from www.hosetechniques.com

my first $1000 went on making sure everything stock worked the way it was supposed to. just cause the outside is clean doesn't mean the inside is. have someone check over your car thouroughly, you'll be surprised what you might find. and besides that do a search and do all the safety mods first. don't do things backwards, you'll end up spending more money.

Make sure the car is running perfect before getting some mods. $1000 is not a lot, but I guess you have to start somewhere. These are the mods I would do if my car was stock.
1) Change the spark plugs and wires $160
2) Change the fuel filter $80
3) Replace all fluids rear, brake, trans, anti-freeze, oil and filter $245
4) Stainless Steel Downpipe $200
5) Intake $300
6) Fan mod $55

It's a little over $1000, but these are the mods I would do. You could save some money by getting some used parts. For example, try to get a used downpipe and intake. You don't need to buy these pieces new. With the intake just replace the foam filter part, which cost about $20. Also, I forgot to add a boost gauge.

Fan mod?

When you say a fan mod, what are you refering to? The fan on the back side of the radiator?
(Sorry, I am just starting to learn about this car)

Thats the answer that I would've given. Do the Exhaust(d/p, m/p, c/b), the then Intake, and then an ECU....

Don't forget about an aluminum AST (air seperation tank). You don't need it that bad but once your stock plastic one breaks your f@#@#d.

- It's the fans that are on the back side of the radiator. The fan mod basically lets you control when to turn on the fans using a toggle switch that will be located inside of the car. It will also turn on automatically when you shut down the car for up to ten minutes until a certain temp is reached. Also, you can turn on your fans right now without the fan mod by turning on your ac and turning your fans to 1.

- Another cool mod you can do is make your bov louder, which will not cost you anything.

- Make sure that your AST is not leaking or has any cracks. You can eliminate the AST, which will cost you $55.

- Make sure to change the oil every 2000 miles or less. You should also check the oil every 500 miles. I change mine every 1500 miles.

Bov louder?

How does someone make the BOV louder without replacing it? I don't hear mine as it is, is there some sort of adjustment for it?

What he is talking about is removing the 1 1/2" black hose that joins the BOV to the airbox (be sure to ziptie it down to something so it dosent bounce around when it releases the air, maybe to your a/c coolantlines directly below it. also you can remove the tube on top of it for the hell of it. (the bottom bov is the actual pressure releaser and the top is a vent for something forgot what though) Make sure to go and pick up some plugs from your local car shop for the now open holes in your airbox (I think they are 3/4 in holes) so no dirty air goes into your turbos.

For my $.02 Id do a good catback and exhaust (MP, DP)for now then do a computer mod to rid yourself of boost/fuel cut that will occour at high rpm's. Then build from there... with just exhaust i ran a 13.8 (Faster than most street hondas will ever dream)
Just so you know I have a SS Down pipe for sale and also a Apex'i power intake. Let me know if you are interested...
I can also give you directions on the exhaust work if you need them...(plenty of bloody fingers/knuckles) it is a learning expereance though. I can give you a list of what i did for my mods when i got my car if you would like just email me (wonder1and@hotmail.com)

Happy Rotoring,
Ryker
