the 350z is not really that slow... its just kind of heavy.
2800 curb vs 3200 curb
255hp/215tq vs 287hp/274tq (250/240 measured @ wheel)
just going by the reported specs it seems like it should've been a much closer race. if i was the z driver i would've raced from a stop.
good kill.

As for the passenger being "afraid", I wasn't. Follow aznpoopy's advice and read the original post.

ok...for all the lazy dipshits who didnt read the previous posts by 7THSIGN, he owns the car and the driver is his cousin who's never raced before.
he was cautious as his cousn's never gone that fast before and he didn't see the need to push the car any faster. the braking part was to remind him not to slam on the brakes when doing 150.
now totmacher and sleeper69 next time, read the whole thread before posting.

Rx7 = 217 tq stock (not a big difference anyway).
I think the Z makes 240 to the wheels and the RX7 220.
The rx7 in question has some exhaust work that probably bumps him to 275-280 hp. Also has slightly higher redline and better aerodynamics. What is the 350Z's coefficent drag? Rx7 is .29 stock. 4.10 gears don't hurt either. The result is not suprising to me considering that is was a 5 speed Fd with exhaust. It probably runs low 13s, a full second faster that the 350Z with that driver.

Yeah they range from 210-220 depending on age and condition. My best friend's automatic put down 220 with a cat-back and RP rebuilt stock motor. I thought that was decent for an AT. He doesn't lose to Z's either. Haha the Z had mods haha that makes it even better. Fat *** car. J/K good race

I'm pretty sure the auto tranny doesn't steal power, it's just the gears that make the car slower. I could be wrong but my car was auto when i first got it, still working on gettin the manual tranny workin. But i threw a 9.5lb flywheel in there so it's going to be noticeably faster

The auto tranny is like a sponge that soaks up power. An auto C5 (350 hp) only makes 290 to the wheels. There is always a 10% slippage between the impeller and the turbine in the torque converter even during full lockup.

350Z vs Rx-7
More info for the masses:
*350Z drag co. is .30 for all but the Track model, .29 for Track.
*The Z is pretty well-tuned from the factory (NA) , so bolt-on`s like exhaust /intake don`t do too much. I think exhausts often dyno 5-8 at the wheels. Intakes do less to nothing. If you go bigger bucks and do a plenum, cats or test pipes, exhaust, and intake you`re probably looking at 20hp at the wheels, maybe.... The plenum, for example, gives most of it`s gains over the last 800 rpm . How useful that is depends on how aggressively you drive.
*Gearing is 3.55 for the 6 sp.
Martin and Outkast, props for keeping an open mind. I know this forum is partial to the Mazda, of course, but a little objectivity goes a long way.
I`m tempted to say about the guy in that Z, but who knows what`s going on there. The math says that a 2800lb Rx-7 with about 220-230 hp (slightly modded) at the wheels should be close to, but ahead of, a 3300 lb Z with 240 (if a 6sp stock) at the wheels. The first races looked like the guy in the Z threw an anchor out his hatch, the last was close for the 2 or so gears that both cars were defintiely into the throttle.
I don`t see many Rx-7`s at all here in Wi, but I hope to have a little fun with one in the Z. Win , lose, or draw it`ll be fun. No mods on the Rx-7 I hope, that turbo potential is scary.

Teacher 34 the theres a reason the last run was somewhat close. If you read before I was in the wrong gear. If you listen my cousin tells me to go in to first. I literally floor it in second started at 2,500-2,800 rpms, while he floors his from first (like we did all the other times). Thats the reason he stayed next to me. The first two races were the results of a evenly matched race. I actually had 1 run before those that we didnt get on the clip that was the same results as the first 2 if not alittle worse. Good point anyways though. ; )

Well, that Z is a goner. Next!
RX7 Sign,
Sounds like you pummeled him then - beating him with a weak start. All I can say is that Z looked AMAZINGLY SLLLLLLLLOOOOOW if it really had a small power (+10hp? /mucho torque) advantage on you, and a moderate (+400-500 lb?) weight disadvantage. Glad you had a fun race though. That`s what sports cars are for!
I`m guessing the next Z race , whether the guy has mods or not, will likely be closer.

the guy with the 350 is a rich spoiled little brat whos 24 years old, has his tuition paid for by his rich snotty parents, thinks hes the hottest guy in school, and not intelligent enough to research that just cause he has an exhuast and intake, thinks that he will run 11's.
a 350 will run a high 13 with those
