I allways thought it was kind of stupid to compare a 5.7 or 6 L V8 to an effectivly 2.6L engine. The 13b does well against like sized engines. I'm sure a 26B NA would make for a better comparison to the Ls1. But thats all theoretical seeing as mazda never made one for mass production.

Bottom line, no replacment for displacement.

My rx7 will still never have anything but a rotary engine, regardless of the cirumstances. And when I'm done it will give an Ls1 powered rx7 some good competion.

true, a bigger version of the rotary vs the piston ls1 would be better to compare. its hard to compare motors to other motors when they have lots of differences.

turbo 4cylinders and rotaries make great power and do it pretty efficiently. but to compare that to a n/a v8 of bigger cubes, it isnt really fair or right comparison. boost vs na is hard to compare.

An LS1 adds only a little weight to an RX7 because you have to remove everything else from under the hood to make space for it. Remove all the same things from a rotary powered RX7 and the rotary one will weigh less.

Besides the turbos and intercoolers and all that piping, what else are you removing? The LS1 and it's accessories fit PERFECTLY into the bay of an FD. Besides the Rotary engine and it's components, what needs to be taken out for the swap?

A/C PS stock exhaust components ETC. The t56 is heavier than the stock trans. Most of the threads I've seen concerning weight compare the weight of the car stock to the the weight of the modified car with an LS1, and I think that was his point. A good single turbo and tubular manifold removes lots of weight.

That said, I don't think it matters. The LS1 car can still be well balanced, and even with an added 150 Lbs (guess) the car will be faster to a point. At some point you will outperform the chassis, which a modified rotary engine is capable of doing.

It's already been shown that WITH the Power Steering, A/C, and everything, the LS1 only outweighs the 13b by 40-60lbs. You know why? Because you still have two turbos, all the piping involved, 1-2 oil coolers, and an intercooler up there for your rotary. You can remove some of the weight and go single turbo for the 13b, but it won't be enough to make it a 150lb difference.

Again this is a stupid argument.
Comparing a much less modern implementaion of technology (13b rew) wich also happens to be less than half the effective displacement. A 6L engine is going to make more power than a 2.6, there is no mystery in that.

If you planning to do an LS1 swap let me know, I could really use some of your parts.

I am but you're probably going to have to wait a year. I'm still finishing up my S13, waiting to see if I'll be selling my C5 for my friend's C5Z, and saving up for an LS1 w/ 6spd package.
