TII vs. Crossfire

So I was just cruising at about 75 coming back from the movies with a friend, when I see these headlights approaching swiftly. I immediately thought it was a cop since my detector had gone off about a mile back, but it wasn't. So I change lanes to let this car by, but he follows me into the other lane, so close to me that all I see is the glow of his lights on my bumper, not the lights themselves. I'm doing about 85 now just so this douche'd back off. There's another car next to me, and he nearly hits this car when I let off and he goes around me. "Whatever, he must be in a hurry. I'll let him run cop interference for me" I say to my friend. Fast forward about 5 minutes, the freeway ends at a light, with two lanes merging into one in about a 1/4 mile. I'm rolling up to the light, and guess who is also at the light next to me? Right, the douche in his daddy's (I'm sure) Chrysler Crossfire. He inches forward when the other light turns yellow, so I figure, what the ****. I just officially broke in my new engine yesterday, let's celebrate! Light turns green, and off we go! Surprisingly enough I didn't beat him by much, about a car length actually. He fell in behind me, but I let off around 100 since I was quickly closing the gap between the car in front of me. He was RIDING my *** like no other! My friend looked back and she said that the dude had the most pissed off face she'd ever seen! We go again at the next light, and I quickly get about 2 cars on him but let off for traffic around 50-60 while he almost hits another car going around me. Too bad this guy was a douche, I would have liked to talk to him about his car, I like Crossfires. Wish I had a camera, I wanted to see that face.

I am kinda surprised I didn't beat him by more though...I thought those cars were slow. Didn't seem like it at the time.

The non-SRT Crossfires are extremely slow. I'd say they'd maybe be good for a mid 15 second quarter mile with a manual transmission. The SRT model cranks out a decent amount more horsepower, but still nothing insane. For what they cost, they are kind of disappointing. Also, if you've ever driven one it's like riding in a coffin. They are very very tight and very very stiff and unforgiving. Definitely not a car I'd pay a lot for. If you're going to spend the money, buy the Mercedes version of the car for slightly more and get more options and power. Also, since they run staggered rim and tire setups, you'll be buying tires for it every 15k miles or so and paying for Mercedes parts to fix it. I believe I looked up once what a steering box for it would run and it was something like 2,500 dollars from the Chrysler dealership. Not a very impressive car by an means.

I'm not sure how much I'm putting down at the wheels. With the exception of a huge streetport, the engine and exhaust is stock for now. And I have the s4 manifolds on it too I don't make enough for what I want to do to it now.

And...I didn't really pay attention...it very well could have been. It was dark, and it moved pretty damn well, and I do remember seeing a wing, so possibly. Do people mod the base models? I'd like to say it was somewhere in between a base and a srt.

crossfires a really big mercedes piles of excrament. I'm a chrysler tech. I would know. The regular crossfires are quick but the srt6 is a lot quicker. I believe it was close. especially if it was an srt6.

Woo hoo! Chrysler technician here too! *high five*

Nobody mods them because they're a PITA to modify and work on. They had an optional adjustable spoiler that you could put out and retract back in. Nothing huge, just a small thing for looks. There's not many SRT6's around, as I've only seen a couple around our dealership.

yea those srt-6 models arent too shabby. they are s/c'ed and make like 300hp. i was "challenged" by a vert srt-6 once. i say challenged cuz we never raced. guy was revving and quickly accelerating then letting off IN TRAFFIC. he would rev, accel for 4 or 5 secs and slam on his brakes so he didn hit the guy ahead of him. he kept looking a me to. i just stared ahead and acted like i was talking to my passenger.

Nice kill! I was deployed with a guy that had a Crossfire and he thought he was the biggest **** cause he had a Crossfire, it just made me laugh. I think they're alright cars, but I wouldn't mod the thing.

Then another guy over there had a Focus that he was modifying and he wanted to race me when we got back to NC...yeah, that would have been funny. I was completely stock back then too.

Your car (best case with a ported motor & no intake or exhaust work) is putting out ~ 200 Hp at the flywheel...which is the same as an '89 Turbo II (ie an S5). S5s run a 15.1 sec 1/4 mile. A 330 Hp SRT6 runs ~ 13.3 - 13.5 sec quarter...meaning it would pull your TII pretty easily (a 13.3 quarter is stock FD territory..actually a little faster than a stock FD).

Your car likely ran the 215 Hp model (a 14.7 sec car....still quicker than a 200 Hp T5 but it sounds like it was close & anyone getting the jump on the other guy would have the advantage).
