Should pull on WS6?

Well today I was with my gf heading towards a soccer match and we were at a stop light and a blacked out WS6 comes up. The exhaust note was loud so I knew he was not stock. I'm thinking the usual headers/cam/exhaust done to it.

Light turns green and I think nothing of it, he jumps out ahead and I just coast then he slows down and coast. Me being about 2 cars back, I drop into 2nd and start to accelerate a little more to pull closer. When I was about 1 car back, I just decided to gun it for a quick acceleration. Right when I am next to him I hear him drop and let it all go. I easily pulled about 2-3 car lengths on him (probably due to a head start?) and then there was a really big hill to go down so I put the brakes on a little and then just coast and then he flys by me and continues down the hill and up it and then finally slows down.

I drive regular again and he is now 5-6 lengths ahead of me after flying by and he's just rolling and revving his engine now and then but he was already ahead of where my turn off was.

Anyways, basically, I just did a quick pull through 2nd gear and maybe a little through 3rd until I let off the gas and blipped the brakes a little and I was probably 3-4 lengths on him and pulling but I wouldn't call it a race because I just did it unexpectedly but he was waiting for me to go. I also stopped because it was two lane road, we were coming down a hill and I didn't want to risk crashing, especially with a passenger. (I appologized to my gf if I scared her)

I would think I should be able to kill a trans, although I do not know for sure it was a WS6 or not. Specs I looked up are 325 to the crank stock, I'm thinking he may be around 300-350 to the wheels with the exhaust and headers and cam? But him also weighing ~3500lbs+

I have all bolt ons for the stock twins, without midpipe and ecu.

His car sounded badass and very loud, but if it was a true race, would he have pulled on me?

I guess so lol? I wasn't really trying to race, I was just doing a quick burst to show what I could do and he did the same thing I guess but kept on it while he was still passed me and I was just coasting. Who knows? lol

If your buddy has a WS6 LS1 with a cam/exh/in and he's only running a 13.1, then he could quite possibly be the worst driver I have ever heard of. Most stock LS1s will run close to a 13.1-13.2 if properly driven.

intake/exhaust/cam is good for low 12's and even 11's depending on the cam.

is your car that fast?

all depends... the ws6 LT1 cars sorta look like the LS1 ws6 cars.

it could have been a mild modded to cammed LT1 car and runs low 13s to high 12's. somewhere around what you might run. so with your head start, i can see you gettin out a few cars.

you guys should have raced even to really tell.
but a cammed ls1 car should be in the mid low 12s for a mild cam and mid high 11's for a big stick. they are really fast with cam swaps. full bolt ons will do mid 12's, so its possible he was a mild LS1 car with loud exhaust. could have been a good race if you didnt have the start on him.

Agreed. I have a couple of friends who have Z28s that started out with LT1s in them, then they did H/C and other bolt ons, essentially making it a LT4 and it seems that most of them ran 13.0-13.2 at somewhere between 106 and 109.

Who's talking about FDs? We're talking about a WS6.

Yea, well I didn't consider it a race, I just did a quick pull because I was just coasting in 2nd gear trying not to pull near him because he was slowing down and I knew he wanted to race. So I just redline it til 2nd gear and then I stopped and I caught up to him and was some cars lengths ahead of him and then he thought we were racing so he got on it when I was right next to him.

I wouldn't have raced him because #1, it was on a narrow narrow street, #2, I had my gf in the car, and #3 my turn off was in a block.

I just wanted to see from you guys how fast those WS6's were. I thought they were like the GTO's, lots of power, but with our weight advantage I thought we'd be able to pull on them pretty quick.

So yes, I guess I did a fly by, I just redlined to 2nd gear, I thought if I would have kept going through 3rd and 4th gear it would be a fly by

Hell, bolt on cars can go low 12s, high 11s if you try hard enough. heh

If you are on the stock ECU, then no. Not at all.
