Shelby Cobra vs 996tt GT640 video

I use to hang here at the FD kills section when I had my FDs, so I thought I'd post a video of this pass that was ok.

The density altitude was about 2100 ft for the time of day when I made the run. I was starting from about idle and nailing it, no hard launch. The 996tt I raced has the Evolution motorsports GT640 package. They're real hard to launch, but move pretty good once rolling.

Just love the sound. My wife and I have been looking into the FFR Cobra Kits. Did you build yours, or buy it assembled? We too have been checking out the n/a Roush Motors.

It's a Superformance, www.superformance.com

The engine is from Roush a bored and stroked 351 Windsor, 427 cubic inch small block, AFR 205 heads, roller cam and stuff.

Yeah I saw the Superformance, but I was curious as to either you bought it as the kit or if you bought it built. I know you can do either. I'm looking to build and was curious about your experience in doing so. If built, what did you pay(40-50k I'm sure?)?

It's all relative to were you're running the car. Here in Arizona we most often have a density altitude that adds about .5 to 1 second or more over sea level performance. I always get a kick out of what people say cars are suppose to do.

If it gives perspective as to the day of the pass Cobra vs. Porsche I know a few guys with C6 Z06s. We all know what those are "suppose to do" The stock cars of the type that day were in the high 12s and low 13s in the mid to high 100 teens mph. That 996tt GT640 would have put about 100 ft or better at 1/4 on a stock C6 Z06 both cars driven equally. He trapped 124 mph. They are hard to launch.

no, its not what i say cars "are suppposed to do", its what ive seen that one do. 11.1 on an ill prepared track is much better than what that one does... but arizona does make sense... i have heard times out there are slower.

No problem. You can bump around times, speed and power with calculators and relate them to density altitude, DA, with reasonable consistency. Here are some links to play with. Look up the weather history for any pass by day, time and location. Then go back and plug it into calculators. Everyone seems to run about the same with similar cars if they're a half way decent driver when you correct it to sea level.

http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_hp_dp.htm

http://www.pro-system.com/calc.html

http://www.modulardepot.com/density.php

Not in reference to anyone in particular, but what sort of sucks is when one dude heads out in Maryland or another location near sea level on a 30F to 40F day with a 30.5 inHg and then quotes a time for a given car. That's how the, those cars do, or that car should run, deal starts up. The C6 Z06 is a good example. All of those unbelievable times from stock cars are under such conditions. People do the same thing for uncorrected HP on Dynojets. It really puts a mix up on things.

Was that the drag day on the 15th? If so Luis was trying to get me to ship my car out there for that. lol. Have you raced Joes gt2 yet? That would be a better run for ya, or maybe the 997tt 610.

The drag day was December 2 2006. Joe's GT2 GT700+ is fast and he's a pretty good driver, better than most guys. He has the GT700 package and he has the fancy intercoolers from Evolution. All twin turbo Porsches are hard to pull a good 60ft time. I get him out of the hole, but he's a little faster once rolling.

Here's a video of my Superformance Shelby Cobra vs. Joe GT2 GT700+. Neither of us had our best run for the day in this video. His best for that day was a 10.92 and mine was the 10.91 for that day. Joe traps a few miles per hour higher. For the video below I had just put on new side pipes and was adding jet sizes. I was lean with stumble at top of 4th.

I don't think the 997tt 610 is quite as fast as Joe's 996tt GT700, but the Owner of Evolution Motorsports is a wickedly awesome driver and launch artist. He would beat most guys even if he had a little less power.

For reference. Stock, stock tire, C6 Z06s the day of our drags were running high 12s
