Damn that's refreshing to know I'm not the only one.

I like all you fellow Rx-7 owners feel connected in a way to other Rx-7 owners... I'm new to the Rx-7 world, but I fit in quickly. I immediatly fell in love with the car, (I've actually always been intrigued by them) and always wanted to wave, stop and talk, and shake the hand of fellow Rx-7 owners...

So it always amazed me how incredibly ignorant Rx-8 owners ARE. How many countless times I have driven by Rx-8 owners giving a little wave, driving up so they can see my badge... I have not ONCE had a Rx-8 owner acknowledge me. It's really kind of ridiculous, because it seems most Rx-8 owners tend to be ricer punks who think their car is so cool "yo."

Rx-7 owners have always been serious enthusiasts... The Rx8 certainly does not seem to be going down that rout.

Also I know it is know replacement for the 7 but it is related... Their is a connection there, or should be one.

Chrism1, don't sweat it. He is new-nuff said. He probably doesn't realize many of us ricer punks had 7's long before this.

428-Have you gone up to IRP yet? There is a company, AIM Tuning, that resides there and they specialize in 7's, 8's, and miatas (my honest fav' of the 3) I work in Greenwood (profile local is wrong), so maybe you'll pass me and get the wave. If you know other owners, I'd love to have a meet or something somtime. I live in Nashville, IN and there is only 1 other rotary here.

I'd personally like to say thanks to every RX-8 owner out there. Even the ignorant, arrogant ***** owners. The way I see it, for every RX-8 owner out there, it's just one more reason for Mazda to spend more money into R&D for the rotary engine.

In comparison to piston engines, the rotary has had far less money spent into developing it. I'm hoping the RX-8 generates enough commercial success to see the release of more advanced rotary engines more capable in performance than any in existence today, while also eliminating the inherent issues that can or do develop with rotaries.

Even though we all may be generally happy with whatever cars we own or hope to own that are available. We'd all be kidding ourselves if we'd be happy for years to come with the models available in comparison to should Mazda take the commercial success of the RX-8 to produce a new rotary powered car that makes all current cars nothing more than outdated antiques.

Thank God there is at least one smart person here. ^^^
Do you people have any idea what the RX8 is accomplishing to improve the chance of an RX7 ever returning? I have 3 FDs and an RX8 and I don't want to be stuck in 10 years with some rustbucket POS because it's "cooler than the RX8" but Mazda didn't make it any more because people were hating on the RX8. The RX8 is continuing the rotary tradition by winning countless big races and proving what the motor can do. Mazda has succesfully experimented with a Renesis on a smaller Miata chassis, however none of the 16 new models to be released in the 3 years to come will be RX7s...
Keep hating on the RX8 and there will never be another 7

You're right on with this. For there to be an RX7 there has to be a successful RX8. It’s the same reason that if an RX7 shows up it will probably have the same under pinnings to start with. They need the economy of scale in order to produce the RX7 in a manner in which it won't cost as much as a Porsche. Cost is what killed the RX7 before. With that in mind, even if/when an RX7 shows up I don't think its going to be the monster that people want or expect.

Take it or leave it.

Take it or leave it. I have spent too many years on a sportbike waving at every other motorcycle on the road, and getting pissed when cruisers stick their noses up in the air instead of waving back is simply a waste of time. When I'm in my 8 I wave at every rotary I see drive by(I know I cannot see EVERY one that does). Sometimes I get a wave, sometimes not. No skin off my back either way, ya know?

Again, you can take it or leave it.

I drive an '83 Rx-7 (when the brakes are working), and there are three Rx-8's here in this town. All three of them have saw me driving around, got beside me (or talked to me in a parking lot) about how they are rotary enthusiasts. Actually one was a 35-40 year old woman driving a six-speed as her daily driver who talked to me about her first gen when she was younger. The second gen owners around here are the stuck up ones. Out of around ten second gens, only one or two have actually waved or talked to me. (One of which I ended up doing a little gag race tonight while I was in my Jeep). I've only seen one FD here, and it was parked with no one near.

Lot of folks with RX-8s are true enthusiasts. I wave everytime I see an RX-7 or another RX-8 but that is very rare. Like most RX-8 owners I have respect for the RX-8.

Here's a few thoughts for all of the people bashing the RX-8 to consider:
1) The RX-8 is probably faster than a stock FB or FC so if you are hating on the RX-8 than why not bash those as well.
2) I bet most people bashing the RX-8 have never driven one.
3) Most bashers have never driven the RX-8 on a track before. I did 6 days on the track (talking roadcourses here) this year with my RX-8 and I pass cars that costs much more like the BMW E39 ///M5 and E46 ///M3s.
4) The RX-8 is not about straight line speed. Street racing is lame. You should take your car to the track if you want to be Fast and Furious.
5) The price point of the RX-8 is totally different than the FDs that were last sold in the USA 10 years ago. IIRC, the FD was around 35K USD which would probably be at least 50K in todays dollars. I bought a brand new 2004 RX-8 for 23K... That's a totally different price point so you really shouldn't compare the cars.
6) The linear acceleration and smoothness of the NA RENESIS is priceless when you are turning laps near the limits of adhesion and you want to be as smooth and consistent as possible.

Where I live in Chicago, you find more enthusiastic and passionate RX-8 drivers. In fact the RX-7s drivers here just killed off their local club due to lack of participation and enthusiasm.

It handles like a dream. and will out handle just about anything (unmodded)that is not a sportscar.

Yes the RX8 should not be compared to the RX7. The 8 contiues from where the 7 left off. Much, Much more car for the money. There's not going to be any rx7 is the future. The renesis is the future rotory and it's already called the 8. The rotory is competetive again. The 90's almost killed it with the rotory turbo blow up cars.

Looks are subjective. i think they are equally beautiful but the FD is dated.

I hardly call a 14.5 ET 148mph car slowass. You may mean the low powered Auto rx8. It ain't no super car but the 6sp hold it's own on the track.

A civic to a nsx? No it's like comparing an RX8 to the nsx. I'll take the RX8 and save my money. A civic is'nt anymore like the RX8 then it is the nsx. You may as well list all three in the same catagory with your reasoning. The rx7 is just a name given to past rotories. I got news for ya all. It's now called the rx8 renesis now. Live with it or get out of the present.
Hmm, well I do like the RX8, but call me old fashioned. I like the 7 more, guess I like living in the past.

one more thing.

posting a kill story of an RX-8 in a FD would be like posting a kill of a Miata in an RX-8.

Anthough it carries the RX-name the rx8 is more closely related to the Cosmo series that was released while the rx-series was out in Japan. If you remember Rx7's were called Savanna's (FC and previous) and Efini (FD) in Japan. The RX8 has no other name. It is simply RX8 (just one of the things they used to distance it from the rx7). Mazda japan has yet to release much info on an rx7 return to the US, but if they do it may carry one of its japanese names or a new name all together.
