POS7 QUOTE ) The FD was not up to par with the competition? Are you talking power wise or handling wise? The FD still owns in either category....

IT WAS OVERPRICED FOR WHAT YOU GOT. It's competition sold better. The irony of it all is now you guys lust after these production failures.

You do realize I own an RX8, right?
You do it constantly on this one sided biased forum.
Of course it is going to be bias, it's RX7CLUB, The same bias exist on the RX8CLUB and the MIATANET, because the are catered to each mark. Our cars are an extention of ourselves-you pride your car, too! That's nothing to be ashamed about, but don't knock others who have the same pride in their cars. If you don't care what the 7's think, why are you trying so hard to get them to care about what you think? (Juxtaposition....or irony maybe)

It's an ungoing arguement. I 'm neutralizing your crap. I'm aware this is a rx7 forum. I'm just putting the record straight. I Still don't care what you think. Like the man says. It's like a monkey porkin a football. You are stalemated mate. I killed your queen on your own forum.

I think the 8 is a great car and rather sharp looking, but for my interest, it falls short to the 7. It gets a nod for being the platform for which the rotary came back to US shores, but the rest of the respect will come with time, part of which will be dictated by its owners.

All you do is cry that noone in a rx8 recognizes your lineage then turn around and dis the most efficient modern rotory of all time.
You can trust that we 7 owners and our "aged" vehicles are no strangers to obscurity. If the rotary is well recieved on US shores, then we're happy- but as enthusiast, there is a line between what we expect from the 8 and what we expect from a 7. Max5roadster already hit the nail on the head when he stated that we were watching the 8s release quite closely (and we of course were dissapointed at the drop in its power figure), but theres no need to tout the "greatest of all time" line. What most people were looking for was a rotary powered vehicle had more attention to performance in order to supercede that of the FD. I think for the most part, nobody is trying to "dis" the renesis, but it doesn't meet, surpass, or have the potential performance spec of the 13B-REW, and thats that. If you'd like to bring up other more practical qualities, then I'd be happy to admit where the Renesis shines over other rotaries.

The FD rx7 was overpriced. If not for that and emission changes it would probally have been perfected and still be here. Instead, all you sensitive rx7 forum people do is cry because a different rotory has taken it's place. Like I said, live with it and welcome to reallity.
Thankfully the other two 8 owners in this thread are saving your cars reputation. Us 7 owners are just kicking and screaming at the fact that after almost a decade, another rotary car has breached US shores...as if the option to go out and buy one wasn't available.

chrism1,

Just saw your car domain, slick car. I wish we could retrofit 8 seats in the 7. I already have the shift ****.

haha if the FD was overpriced, how do you explain a almost 30k price tag for a car that couldnt even break the suggested 250hp? i mean that was the original hp before it hit the showrooms, then it went to 238..not to mention it only gets like 157 or 159 ft lbs of torque at like 8500rpm..

if you dont call that overpriced, i dont know what is..

reason why people bought these cars because it was something new..thats why 80% of rx8 owners are people who dont know what the hell is under their hood..true car enthusiasts already know this was not what they expected, it wasnt something that wanted..it was a new car, basically with a more "efficient" engine as you will but as a sports car, it didnt impress them with numbers..an acura rsx type s, about 5-7k less had better numbers than this car, even got better mpg..

at least our cars were overpriced but had the numbers to back it up, it just had the flaws of your standard sports car..

so like i said before, you're comparing old technology with new..

You're exactly what you made yourself out to be- whatever title you'd like to attach to it is up to you. One thing I will say though, is that you have very little idea of what you're talking about. I've just as well had debates in which I didn't support the FD front, and while I own one, I still think there are a good bit of cars out there that are better than mine. If I thought my car was perfect, it wouldn't have the mods list that it does. A car is a car, positives and negatives exist...but the 8 isn't setting "the bar" for what I want in a performance car.

You guys are no angels either.

I don't know how to explain this, but I'll spell it out to you:

[B]I (that's me) own (purchased for my use) an RX8 (Renesis)[B]

I do not own a 7. The very fact that I, as a fellow 8 owner, am speaking out against you in such a manner ought to give you pause. Like political extremes, you think the 7 owners are so bias, but only because your perception of the 8 is so bias. The further to the left or right you are, the further you are from center, and as such, even those with centered opinions will seem too extreme. This is how you presented yourself. I fail to see how appreciating all unique cars and expressing that appreciation is "crap" that needs to be "neutralized"?
I'm just putting the record straight.
I love your passion for our car, but how many times have we all heard that line from people on both sides of political extremes? What record? Who's counting? Straight according to who? If you go by sheer performance numbers, the rx7 dominates the 8. If you go by creature comforts, the 8 beats out the 7. But hey, my 93 OLDS Ninety-Eight beats out the 8 in the ride/creature comfort department, so whats your point? Don't you see, you can't compare them, they both have their own niche. So relax and stop trying to fight some imaginary quest to "dethrone" the 7, and use the passion you have for your car to make it the way you want it to be. In the same light, let the 7's do as they will with their rides, understanding that they have just as much pride in their cars as you do-this is where respect starts.

The rx8 is better to me and I would not be fool enough to trade it for a FD like 2 rx8 owners on this forum. Why the hell didn't you buy an rx7 to begin with? they can be found on E-bay. Hipocrites.

Whats it to you? Perhaps it was the seats that hooked him...

If you favor your RX-8, thats what matters...YOU are the one driving it- the rest of us are allowed to like either car, or even both, while criticizing them down the line. Some FD owners have "gone to the light side" and sold their 7s in favor of the 8 as well if it makes you happy *shrug*. At the end of the day, each person will drive whichever car so happens to better suit their needs/wants. End of story.

Did you read the first part of this thread???

Another 8 owner here just droppin by- As a former 87 GXL FC owner, I too LOVE the 7 (Brother currently owns a lightly modded TII)! Not all 8 owners are dopes! I wave at every 7/8 that I can. Would I prefer an FD/FC/FB? Yup.. Is it feesable at the moment.. nope... Which brings me to my point, the RX8 was meant to reach a wider market than the standard 2 seater sports car. And in this effort, Mazda has succeeded! As a result you now have a far more diverse group of consumers.. i.e. less performance purists, if you will. I already own a miata (another kickass car BTW, www.cardomain.com/id/jgaskins) and could not have, for practical reasons, another 2 seater. Hence the rx8. Sporty enough for me, roomy enough for her... Kinda like "Strong enough for a man, but PH balanced for a woman." Besides, once all the market hype dies, only the true enthusiasts will remain.
I would also love to have any Lambo, Ferr', viper, etc... Does wanting other cars make one a hipocritical? Or, rather an auto enthusiasts-one who is able to recognize the brillance in other cars. Your are really reaching with these personal attacks. Neither Chrism1 or myself has called you a "fool" or "hipocrite". Relax and enjoy your 8, I enjoy mine.

you can retrofit the seats....there was an owner of a black fd that came to rotorfest with us and he had the black/black leather rx-8 seats installed.....and he had the heaters working and power seats working

Interesting...what railings did he use? Fit and/or pics? Besides that, I'm wondering how much they would cost, unless they were from a wrecked 8 or something being parted.

"I wouldn't say its any more reliable than other non-turbo rotaries. Its a great car, but as far as the engine goes it doesn't do anything too dramatic. It functions for todays market, but had to make sacrifices in order to do so". (origianlly posted by Shinobi-x)

shinobi-x, if today's market is gas milage and reliability then i beg to differ.

you can get them from one of the vendors on rx8club or member for a relatively small amount....i have seen them sell for as low as 3 or 400 for the set....i believe they are on modified oem 8 rails, amd here are some terrible pics but you can sort of see them in the back ground...and he isnt an acosta guy he just went there as a customer

Hey Yo's. This thread is looooong! So if I repeat somebody oh well.

I own an 8 and am very happy with it. I'm very very familiar with all previous rotary cars, and I think the 8 was a great succesor to the 7. I actually would have bought an FD if I could have afforded it, insurance wise. For an NA motor, the Renesis is pretty good in my book. It's faster than any other stock NA Rotary in the past and has more power. It's not even that far off a stock FD.

I'm just glad I can say I don't own a piston. Not even 1!

I come here and read to understand some of the mechanics of the rotary and hear what some high powered rotary can do! You all have way more experience taking the rotary apart and tuning, you 've had way more time to.

Just give t some time and eventually rx8 owners will be left to the few enthusiast and all of them will nod to ya!
