My 03 Cobra VS FourtyOunce's GT35/40 RX-7

Comming home from a car show at Hooter's last night, we decided to play a bit on the parkway. We went several times from a 40-45 mph punch. I was starting in 2nd gear and seamed to get a car on him instantly each time. For some reason I was out of it and kept hitting the rev limiter in 3rd so he would catch up a bit. Guess I couldn't hear my car over his open wastegate We did this 3 or 4 times with similar results. On each run I seamed to end up about a car ahead at the end of 4th or begining of 5th gear. He said he was running just over a bar of boost. He has a stock mazda reman motor with all bolt ons and the single turbo. His brother was trailing is his built Celica/Supra. Apparently he was right there with us but his car runs out of gear at 130. I'm pretty happy because this means my cobra is almost as fast at my rx-7 was.

I think I was pulling when I let off. If you do the math it is going to take about 100 hp more for a cobra to beat an rx-7 because of the weight. Its like racing a supra. Im going to lose a bit of weight when I do the brakes and suspension, but I am not gutting the car or taking out any accesories. I'll just add more power

He needs a good street port to help out on the top -end.. I seem to get a jump onfd's w/ a single and w/ stock ports making 15 to 30 rwhp on paper more than me and hold them off w/ my street port. Less lag more top end. Good run..G

Jio, I can't see myself owning another rotary powered vehicle. There is no point. An ls1 swap, maybe. His car runs pretty strong for a stock motor car as does mine with the stock blower. I wish I had a passenger so I could have taped it.

Good runs Ihor! .. I was starting in 3rd most of the time and shifting at 6900, as this is close to my peak hp point. Ihor would get the jump from the get go, as his SC response is slightly faster than my boost buildup. Overall, I cant be any happier with the way the car is running, even with stock ports. We have to do it again. There was way too much traffic for my taste at 140mph+. As far as top end .. no complaints. The car has plently for stock ports.

Did you try a brake boost run? I also meant power above 7000rpms. Should have cleared myself there. Sorry. It also helps at higher speed as well. Good stuff...G

Well, that's your problem. 40 in 3rd...

Good runs nonetheless.

Nice races. Ya'll should race again. Ihor- no hit rev limit!!! Fourty Ounce- start in 2nd at those speeds and leave your powerband slightly in each gear before shifting. One of you- tape the damn thing!!! Have fun.

7 looks sexier and I dont know if id make the cobra sound so "stock". Its got most of the mod's the 7 has. Intake, exhaust, tune, blower upgrade. There are just more parts to change out on a piston engine.

Stock blower, motor is untouched. The only power mods are the intake, high flow cats, catback, pullies, and some tuning.

Yea, but it's still a FORD, as opposed to the Mazda, which is an Exotic Ford.

good runs. Sounds like both cars are pretty evenly matched. Now, if the RX-7 stays in second gear at 40-45mph, brake boosts, and shifts at 8k, then it WILL pull on the Cobra. And I'm speaking from experience.

Don't even start that ****. When it comes down to it, both are just fun, affordable cars. Neither is no exotic. If this if that... why don't I just bump up my timing and not hit the rev limiter this is getting stupid.

You've barely touched that Cobra... let's soo 600 hp and squash that FD : ) I love them both, but the superior car in a straight line is definitely the Cobra... take it to the max brother.
