He can't talk about built V8's that aren't good for the street but you can talk about 6 second rotaries that are basically the same? I love the little engines that could, but you're not talking about any small amount of $ when it comes to making sub 10 second passes on ANY engine. For those speeds you will save a bit of cash by using a V8 though. You also fail to mention that any of those small displacement engines that are running that fast are not run with those track settings on a daily basis, nor would that be done with any small amount of forced induction. That would be because the motor won't last too long when tuned to the edge. Meanwhile, a half *** tune on an LS1 will get you those times, and then you drive it away the same way it went down the track.
I don't own any V8's because they are too simple to get power out of, but that's my personal preference. I like to tune small motors to compete with the big boys, but you can't deny that they are the ones that set the standards for stock power. You claim how slow they are, but you're comparing modded to stock. Power-to-cost the LS1 will own you. Put equal cash into an LS1 as you would the small motor you are trying to get to compete with it and it will still win.

my next project is going to be a turbo lt1 fc
rotaries, 4 cylinders, and 6 cylinders just cant compete. i love anything and everythign that is fast, but at the risk of offending most of the people on this site... the rotary engine just does not belong in a chassis as refined as rx7 imo.. its an interesting concept but just too flawed for use in fast street car.
i can drop in and turbo a v8 for the same cost as building a badass rotary, but it will be reliable, make more power and torque, and probably even get better mileage ha.. as if that were a concern
to each their own, i dont hate on rotary rx7's, its nice when people return the courtesy on swapped 7's

EDIT: The more I think about it the more it bothers me. I love both setups, and so I wouldn't know which one to pick. I'll take both.

rx7legend.. you're dumb.
LSx swaps are perfect for 7s. If you say otherwise, you're simply ignorant. Who wouldn't want the power potential of a big, sturdy V8 in an awesome chassis like the 7's?
I love my rotary... but... seriously, don't be an idiot. You just give rotary fans a bad name when you act like rotaries are the best engines ever. They're not at all.
Rotaries can make big numbers, and when they do it's alot more impressive than seeing a V8 making big numbers, but.. logically, economically, and environmentally speaking.. LSx > rotary. You can't deny that.
PS: Thanks for making a jackass of myself and every other rotary owner. I'm ashamed for you.
