Killed by a Z06 tonight

I was coming back from the movies with me and my gf and I see a red Z06 infront of me. I was talking to my gf telling her I'm not going to mess with it, I'd get killed. I passed him when we got on the freeway and I saw him coming up behind me. I blip my brake lights a little to show him that I'm interested and move over the the middle lane. He pulls up we he says 3 beeps. I go into 3rd gear and on the 3rd beep we go. Right off the go, he pulls about 1/2 a car on my because I wasn't spooling up and my RPM's were around 4-4.5k. He ends up about 1 to 1.5 cars head of me.

We do one more pull this time I'm around 5-6k and spooling and then on the 3rd honk we hit it. Again he pulls a little on me and we are going and he is slowly pulling away. Be the time we shut down, my front bumper is on his back bumper.

All in all I was pretty amazed that I stuck with him. I have a 94 FD with stock twins and all bolt ons running stock boost/fuel setup. I am running REALLY rich right now, so I'm pretty sure if I upgraded my fuel system and got a tune for around 12-13psi I might be able to pull on him a little. It was a 2002 stock z06. Was a good guy.

Good death, glad to hear that you at least stuck fairly close to him, and that he was a cool guy.

Those are always the best races, the ones you know you will probably lose, but do just for the fun of it.

Nice death, But if your stock twins aren't spooled by 4.5k RPM you msy have some problems, unless you are non sequential. either way good death.

They aren't spooled as in I wasn't really on the peddle before we went. I was sort of coasting so that's why.

It ended up being one of my friends in the z06. He had a SL500 and then I guess he traded it in and bought a z06 cause he called me after. He was going off telling me about how the z06 doesn't start pulling until it's in the upper range so that's why it was close. He's know for making up excuses though lol. It was a fun race.

A stock Z06 is a very fast car. A tune isn't going to be all you will need to beat him.

when i had the non sequential i got boose around 2000rpm so you obviously got a problem with the car!

i ran a stock 03 z06 with the single on a stock port and i had a pretty hard time when i was pushing 370hp. the fact that that i had to wait for me to spool & they jump with that torque makes it pretty even!

If he runs 15 psi, for very long, he will need more than a tune

There's no way I'd run all of my mods with stock ECU. I have a PFC with stock base map, that's why I said I need to upgrade my fuel system and then get a tune. Lol

Your friend is partially right, but hes also kinda full o' *****. The Z06 pulls through any part of the band, but the torque peaks at 4200, and hp at 6200. So between those two areas, its going to be more of a pull, but if he was in the right gear (at 70, id probably drop to 3rd) he would have been pulling right away.

The 02 has 405hp (about 385 at the wheels) and around the same amount of torque.

He is right in the fact that it loves the high revvs. If you have it anywhere above 4, its gonna act like a rocket.

Something fun to do though, just to mess with him. There is an exhaust braket right behind that rear fashia to hold the mufflers/ tips up. I think its a 1/2 or 9/16ths nut. Undo it, and put both the mufflers on the LOWER level. It will look like someone kicked it. (or just do one, like the dealership i took mine to did) and it will look like someone just kicked one side. Doesnt do any physical damage, takes about 2 minutes, and it will have him going nuts for at least a half hour if he gets down and looks at it.
